Ghanaian singer Sefa has recounted how a direct message (DM) from rapper and entrepreneur D-Black on Instagram changed the trajectory of her music career.
According to the singer, she was still a student when she received a message from D-Black, inviting her to join a new record label he was planning to establish with music producer DJ Breezy.
Speaking during a conversation on a cooking show on UTV on August 16, 2026, Sefa mentioned that she initially struggled to believe that the message was genuinely from D-Black.
She explained that she showed the message to her lecturer, who confirmed that the account was verified and indeed belonged to the rapper.
“I was having lectures in school. I realized I had a DM on Instagram from D-Black. I showed the message to my madam that I got a message, but she should confirm if it’s really D-Black. When she checked, she said it’s him and it’s a verified account,” she said.
According to Sefa, D-Black told her that he had come across a video of her singing and was impressed by her talent.
“I opened the message and D-Black said he saw a video of me singing. He and DJ Breezy want to start a record label, so I should let him know if I’m interested in joining,” she stated.
Sefa noted that the unexpected opportunity prompted her to consult her mother before making a decision.

Her mother encouraged her to take the opportunity and see where it would lead.
“I had to discuss it with my mother and she agreed that I should give it a try and let’s see how it would go,” she shared.
The singer subsequently visited the studio, where she encountered several artistes she had never met before.
She admitted that she was nervous because she was new to the industry and was also the only female among the artistes present.
“I went to the studio and I saw a couple of artistes there. That’s the first time I saw them, so I was so nervous and I was the only woman among them,” she said.
Sefa was then asked to record a song with Ghanaian musician Epixode.
She disclosed that Epixode and the other artistes at the studio were supportive and helped her settle into the unfamiliar environment after realizing she was new to the music industry.
“I was asked to record a song with Epixode and luckily for me, they helped me a lot because they realized I’m new in the industry,” she stated.
According to Sefa, her performance during the recording session eventually convinced the team that she had what it took to become a professional artiste.
It was after they heard her sing that discussions about officially signing her to the record label began.
“After they realized I could sing well, that’s when the signing conversation came in,” she added.
I received a message from my former record label boss, D-Black, saying he had seen videos of me singing.
