Ghanaian highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has revealed that one of the most creative moments of his career came at a time when he was emotionally broken, saying the pain from a failed relationship unexpectedly inspired him to write Odo Nwom.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, the award-winning singer explained that he was battling emotional distress when he entered the recording studio, a moment that eventually gave birth to the hit song.

The musician recounted that his emotional struggles began after getting engaged to a woman who travelled to Germany the very next day, leaving him behind in Ghana.

“I got engaged to this beautiful woman and the very next day she was to fly to Germany, and she went, leaving me here in Ghana,

“That was what gave me the mood to sing that song. So actually, I was down and in the wrong mood, but it brought out that creative part of me that evening,” he said.

According to Ofori Amponsah, the situation worsened after the woman was allegedly told that he was not at home, although he had only gone to the recording studio.

“She called me, talked a lot, and I was so down,” he said.

He noted that although he was going through one of the lowest moments of his life, that emotional experience became the foundation for Odo Nwom, a song that would later resonate with many fans.
