Former Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah, has disclosed that intelligence gathered by the organisers of Daddy Lumba’s funeral indicated that some individuals were allegedly hired to disrupt the transportation of the late highlife legend’s body from Kumasi to Accra for burial.

Owusu Amankwah, who served on the planning committee for Daddy Lumba’s funeral, made the disclosure a year after the burial while speaking to the media on the sidelines of activities marking the first anniversary of the musician’s passing.

According to him, after the final funeral rites were held in Kumasi in December 2025, the organisers quietly transported Daddy Lumba’s body to Accra for burial at his East Legon residence.

However, before the journey began, Collins Amankwah said they received intelligence that some bad people had allegedly been contracted to create chaos during the procession.

He explained that as the hearse made its way to Accra, police officers had to “cut off” the bad individuals who had allegedly been contracted to cause chaos when the procession reached Ejisu, preventing them from continuing the journey.

The police then escorted the corpse safely to Accra.

“When we were transporting his body to Accra, we received intelligence that some bad individuals had been hired to cause chaos along the way. As a result, when we reached Ejisu, we asked the police to cut off those people from following the hearse. The police then escorted the corpse safely to Accra,” he said.

Touching on the decision to bury Daddy Lumba at his East Legon residence, Owusu Amankwah maintained that it was the late musician’s final wish to be laid to rest in his own home.

He disclosed that although Victor Kofi Owusu, who acted as the family head during the funeral arrangements, had initially considered burying the late musician beside his late mother at Nsuta, Daddy Lumba’s children insisted that their father’s expressed wish was to be buried at his residence in East Legon.

The burial followed a legal dispute between factions of Daddy Lumba’s family over where he should be laid to rest.

On December 12, 2025, a day before the scheduled burial, members of the musician’s maternal family sought a court injunction to halt the funeral and burial arrangements planned for December 13.

The maternal family, led by Obaapanin Afia Adomah, Robert and Georgina Gyamfi, Ernestina Fosu and Nana Afia Kobi, initially secured an injunction from the High Court.

However, they were required to pay a GH¢2 million undertaking to Victor Kofi Owusu, the family head overseeing the funeral arrangements.

They failed to pay the amount, rendering the injunction unenforceable and allowing the funeral and burial to proceed as scheduled.

Following the court’s decision, members of the maternal family did not attend the funeral rites.

Since then, they have repeatedly claimed they do not know where Daddy Lumba was buried, a dispute that has continued to fuel disagreements between the two factions of the family.
