Popular Kumawood actor Mr Beautiful has revealed that his political affiliation played a major role in pushing him out of the Ghanaian movie industry.

Speaking in an interview with Emelia Brobbey, the actor, whose real name is Clement Bonney, said producers in the movie industry sidelined him after he became actively involved in politics.

According to Mr. Beautiful, producers initially tried to make his Fante language a problem, claiming he needed to sound more fluent in Twi to fit certain movie roles.

He recalled being told by one Opoku to speak Twi like veteran actor Nana Ama McBrown and others in the industry, because he couldn’t write my Fante into subtitles, but he refused to change his identity just to satisfy producers.

“There was a man, his name is Mr Opoku, who used to do the subtitles for the movies. He started saying he didn’t understand my Fanti. I am a Fanti man, I can’t speak like Agya Koo or McBrown, I’m comfortable speaking my Fanti. I couldn’t fake the language just because they wanted me to,” he explained.

However, the actor said he later realized the language issue was only an excuse.

Mr Beautiful disclosed that a man identified as Paul Gee, who was then the treasurer of the Ghana Movie Producers Association, eventually told him the real reason he was no longer getting acting opportunities.

According to him, Paul Gee openly admitted that producers were uncomfortable working with him because he had been labeled as political.

“He told me clearly that they couldn’t work with me because they saw me in an NDC platform. He told me straight that I was political,” Mr Beautiful recounted.

The actor said after that revelation, movie roles stopped coming completely as producers allegedly united against him.

“I wasn’t being called for shoots anymore. No producer was contacting me, including miracle, and that was when I realized it was an industry decision,” he said.

Despite the setback, Mr. Beautiful said he accepted the situation and decided to move on with his life rather than beg for opportunities.

He also argued that the industry later suffered from his absence because he had helped attract audiences from Ghana’s coastal communities into the Akan movie market.

According to him, producers later attempted to reconnect with him after realizing they had reduced their audience reach, but by then, he had already decided not to return.

“Once I make a decision, nobody can change it,” he stated.
