Why didn't you ask about my income before taking my taxes? — Prophet Ogyaba fires GRA

Prophet Ogyaba has publicly criticised the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) over what he describes as continuous scrutiny despite settling his tax obligations.

In a video shared on social media on May 20, 2026, Prophet Ogyaba questioned why the tax authority is demanding explanations about his source of income after previously accepting his tax payments and issuing him clearance documents.

“This is to the GRA. I want to tell you that I don’t do politics. If it’s someone who is amongst you that’s bringing allegations and wants to stress me for me to die, it won’t work on my side,” he said.

According to the preacher, he received an earlier notice from the GRA indicating that he owed taxes, which he subsequently settled in full.

“You brought me a letter saying there are some taxes that I’ve not paid, but I later went to clear all the debt. After making payment, you gave me a certificate and receipt that shows that I’ve paid,” he explained.

However, Prophet Ogyaba expressed shock that after settling the alleged debt, the authority reportedly sent him another letter demanding that he declare the source of his income.

“Now, you’ve written another letter asking me to declare my source of income. If you didn’t know my source of income, would you have allowed me to pay my tax?” he questioned.

The preacher further argued that private business owners who employ people are also contributing significantly to national development and should not be subjected to unnecessary pressure.

“We are all citizens and, from what I know, it’s not only the government that can provide jobs. If I own a company and employ 100 people, I’m also contributing to the betterment of the nation,” he stated.

Prophet Ogyaba also compared his situation to foreign nationals operating businesses in Ghana, claiming that some foreigners appear to operate freely without facing the same level of scrutiny.

“Nigerians and Chinese are doing their own stuff without any interrogations. We, the citizens that the country belongs to, you want to stress us,” he added.
