Nigerian singer, Davido, who has about fifteen years of working experience as one of Afrobeats’ most prolific superstars, has hinted at a huge project with a Ghanaian creative set to drop in 2026.
He made this known during an interview on the BBC’s Official UK Chart Show hosted by Eddie Kadi.
The conversation began with Eddie Kadi looking back on the evolution of African music, particularly expressing concern that the dance elements that once defined the sound had gradually faded.
He pointed out that despite the global success of Afrobeats, many parties today no longer have that same energy on the dancefloor.
Kadi then shifted the discussion to Ghana, noting that the country appears to be at the forefront of bringing back that danceable spirit in African music.
He referenced the resurgence of Over by R2Bees, which has gained renewed attention nearly a decade after its release.
He also pointed to DopeNation, praising their work in reviving the Azonto sound, particularly through their hit song Kakalika.
'I miss being a regular person' – Davido
According to him, these efforts signal a return to the dance-focused era of African music, with Ghana playing a leading role in that revival.
It was in response to this conversation about the direction of African music that Davido shared his own plans.
He disclosed that he has something huge in the works with a Ghanaian creative, though he did not disclose the identity of the collaborator.
“I got something big with somebody from Ghana coming this year,” Davido said.
Davido further mentioned that after performing on major global stages, selling out arenas, and attending events such as the Grammy Awards multiple times, he now feels the need to reconnect more with his roots.
He noted that his current music direction is more focused on African sounds.
“I’ve performed everywhere, sold out every arena, been at all the awards shows, I’ve been to the last 3 GRAMMYs… The music I’m making now is very African,” he said.
