Entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah has weighed in on the ongoing debates surrounding award nominations in Ghana’s music industry, urging stakeholders to prioritise merits over sentiments.

Speaking in UTV’s United Showbiz on March 22, 2026, she stressed that while fans may have preferences, it is unfair to discredit the hard work of artistes who have earned their nominations.

“You could want an artiste to be nominated, but you can’t discredit someone’s job. If the artiste doesn’t work hard enough, it would be easy to notice. Awards must be earned on merit,” she said.

According to her, many artistes invest significant time, energies, and resources into their crafts, and being recognised through nominations should be seen as an achievement worth celebrating.

“There are so many people who have invested their sweat and hard work into their craft and they’ve done so much for themselves. As an artiste, if you’re being recognised and acknowledged, you should be proud of yourself,” she stated.

MC Yaa Yeboah further highlighted the role of public relations and strategic promotion in award schemes.

She noted that artistes who feel overlooked should consider engaging professionals to improve their visibility.

“It’s very important that you receive that acknowledgement that comes with the job that you’ve done. Hence, we cannot just give the awards out. That’s why we involve PRs. If you feel like you have the advantage and you want to work, engage the services of someone and let them do the bidding for you,” she explained.

Touching on the frequent controversies that trail nominations, she pointed out that much of the disagreements often come down to voting and public perception.

“All the arguments and controversies boil down to voting. I’m urging us all to stop the unhealthy conversations. Let’s debate it out, show the reasons you feel your artiste is supposed to be there,” she urged.

MC Yaa Yeboah cautioned against dismissing nominees, insisting that due processes are followed before selections are made.

“If we should argue that an artiste is not supposed to be nominated for a category, that wouldn’t be fair because research and other procedures were done. Why would you think someone doesn’t deserve to be there?” she added.
