A member of the Volta Regional Communications Team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Japhet Festus Gbede, has launched a scathing attack on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) following its "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration, describing the protest as a "desperate, self-serving theater of a politically bankrupt establishment."

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, the outspoken NDC communicator argued that the demonstration was an attempt by the former governing party to rewrite political history, evade accountability, and manufacture public sympathy.

Reacting to the protest, Gbede stated that after an eight-year tenure marked by economic mismanagement, severe hardship, rising public debt, and the erosion of public trust, the NPP cannot suddenly rebrand itself as a defender of democratic values.

"The NPP cannot opportunistically weaponize the noble rhetoric of democracy as a political fortress whenever legitimate institutional scrutiny approaches," Gbede wrote. "True democracy guarantees the rule of law, not political immunity; it ensures equality before the law, not aristocratic privilege for partisan elites."

He further asserted that for nearly a decade, Ghanaians raised concerns about illegal mining, environmental degradation, fiscal indiscipline, and allegations of corruption, but those concerns were largely ignored.

Gbede maintained that a political party that suffered a decisive rejection at the ballot box cannot restore public confidence through street demonstrations and what he described as rehearsed outrage.

"Ghana belongs to its sovereign citizens, not to political elites who believe that executive power should serve as an everlasting shield against public accountability," he stated.

Taking a swipe at the leadership and members of the opposition party who participated in the march, Gbede remarked that the demonstrators "should be ready for more health walks." He added that government initiatives such as Mahama Care, together with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), demonstrate a genuine commitment to improving the health and welfare of Ghanaians.
