Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has raised concerns over the handling of the bail application involving NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, describing the process as unfair and troubling.

In a post shared on his X page, Afenyo-Markin detailed what he claimed were irregular developments surrounding the case, including the sudden reassignment of the bail application from one court to another.

According to him, the bail application, which was filed on May 14, 2026, was initially assigned to Criminal Court 2. However, he alleged that the Registrar later withdrew the docket from the court on Friday, May 15, 2026.

He further stated that on the day of the hearing, lawyers for Abronye were first informed that the matter would be heard in Criminal Court 2, only to later be redirected to General Jurisdiction Court 2.

Afenyo-Markin also criticised the Attorney General’s request for more time to respond to the bail application, arguing that the application had already been served several days earlier.

According to the Minority Leader, the delay prevented Abronye’s legal team from moving the bail application in court, resulting in the adjournment of the case while the NPP chairman remains in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

“What is happening to Abronye is unjust and unfair!!!” Afenyo-Markin wrote in the post.

The development has further heightened tensions within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose leaders have repeatedly accused state institutions of targeting members of the party.

Abronye was remanded into custody over allegations of spreading false news, a case that has generated significant political debate and renewed discussions about due process, fairness, and the treatment of opposition figures within the justice system.
