The Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Kwame Lukutor, has taken a swipe at Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin and NPP Bono Regional Chairman Abronye DC amid the latter’s ongoing legal battle with the state.
Speaking during a discussion on Channel One TV, and shared on X on May 20, 2026, Kwame Lukutor described the two New Patriotic Party (NPP) figures as “birds of the same feather.”
According to him, Afenyo-Markin’s recent remarks against a Circuit Court 9 judge are no different from the comments often made by Abronye DC, adding that the Minority Leader has become accustomed to making controversial statements without facing consequences.
“If you listen to the things he said, I think they are birds of the same feather. That is why he was elected to defend him because of the kind of things he spewed out.
Afenyo-Markin mounts defense amid backlash over his comments about judge
“I’m not sure any Member of Parliament would ordinarily speak the way Afenyo-Markin did. I believe he has been given too much leeway to make such statements without being held accountable, and so he has become used to it,” he said.
Kwame Lukutor further claimed that the NPP has become deeply divided and weakened internally.
According to him, Abronye DC has repeatedly attacked members within his own party and escaped punishment, which he believes has encouraged his continued public outbursts against state officials and other individuals.
“Seriously, the NPP itself has broken down completely beyond repair. The same Abronye DC he is defending was once referred to the party’s Council of Elders for disciplinary action.
“I’m sure it is because he has not been dealt with properly that he now goes around insulting everybody,” he added.
The South Tongu MP also stated that people who constantly insult Ghanaians, particularly state officials, should no longer be tolerated.

“You did it once, you are taken to court, then a second time and a third time, and you still think you can say anything and go scot-free. Who is Abronye DC? Why should we tolerate him to that extent? When some of these people want attention in their parties, they begin to do silly things.
"...Then, the next moment, you hear they want to contest national elections, and people start following them. For me, it is neither here nor there. He should be dealt with according to the full rigours of the law,” he stated.
