A member of the National Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, has threatened members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over what he describes as intimidation and harassment by the ruling government.
Speaking during a discussion on Onua FM, shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on May 20, 2026, Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah stated that members of the NPP would not hesitate to burn down the headquarters of the NDC if any NPP member is arrested or intimidated again.
According to Gyewu-Appiah, the ruling government has been unlawfully arresting members of the NPP, which he described as an abuse of power and a violation of their human rights.

He argued that during the tenure of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, members of the NDC were not subjected to such arrests, adding that the era of intimidating opposition party members, which he associated with the Rawlings era, is long gone.
“If they continue to arrest our members, the next time such a thing happens, we will burn down the NDC headquarters. I know what I am saying is a threat, but are the things they are doing not also threats? Those days when they could intimidate us are gone.
“Did you ever see President Akufo-Addo arresting people during our time? The Rawlings era is long gone. I am repeating that the next time they arrest our members, we will burn down their headquarters, and that will be our first warning,” he said.

Gyewu-Appiah also accused the National Peace Council and other state institutions of remaining silent while NPP members are allegedly being intimidated.
“The Peace Council and other state elders are sitting quietly while these things happen. As they continue arresting members of the NPP, nobody is saying anything. This is a warning because we are tired of staying silent for a long time,” he added.
After making the remarks, the host of the show urged him to retract the statement and apologise. However, Gyewu-Appiah refused, insisting that he stood by his comments.

“No, I won’t apologise. Let them go and arrest another NPP member, and we shall see,” he stated.
