A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yakubu Tony Aidoo, has launched a scathing attack on the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey
In a viral video circulating on social media on January 3, 2026, Aidoo accused Kwetey of disrespecting party supporters and questioned his authority within the NDC.
“Talking rubbish, talking rubbish, rubbish. I sold my Land Cruiser to support the party. Who are you? Fiifi Kwetey, who are you?” Tony stated.
He expressed anger over claims that supporters of President John Dramani Mahama were pushing for a third-term agenda, describing such assertions as insulting to Ghanaians.
‘Bootlicking of the highest order’ – Fifi Kwetey descends on NDC members calling for a 3rd term for Mahama
Aidoo insisted that party grassroots members understand the constitution and are capable of interpreting it themselves.
“Today or tomorrow, I will read the constitution so Ghanaians will know that we, the scrap dealers in the region, can read and understand the constitution,” he said.
He further accused Kwetey of leading what he described as a group of ‘sycophants’ and branded him as greedy.
“Who are you? How dare you to insult us? Fifi Kwetey. Fifi Kwetey, I'm talking to you. How dare you to insult us? Sycophant. You are the leader of Sycophants, you are a greedy Fifi Kwetey,” he indicated.
He challenged the NDC General Secretary to initiate disciplinary action against him if he so wished.
“Go and write a letter to drive me out of the party,” he said, adding that he had worked harder for the NDC and contributed more resources than Kwetey.
Escalating his rhetoric, Aidoo vowed to work against Kwetey’s future political ambitions, stating that he would ensure the general secretary loses his next internal election.
“I will make sure Fifi Kwetey loses his national election,” he declared, claiming that senior party officials, including the Ashanti Regional Chairman, the Chief of Staff, and the interior minister, could attest to his contributions to the party.
We will test the law for President Mahama to go for third-term - A Plus
Aidoo maintained that he deserved recognition and empowerment from the NDC, stressing that he had not begged for his position or support.
He reiterated his unwavering support for President Mahama, declaring his readiness to back him for a third term, and insisting that he was not intimidated by any threats.
“I will support President Mahama for his third term tomorrow. I will support President Mahama's third term today. If you like, when you come, cut my head. I don’t fear you,” he said.
Speaking at the 44th Anniversary celebration of the 31st December Revolution on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Kwetey said the calls for President Mahama's third term do not reflect a genuine commitment to the ideals of the NDC but rather point to growing sycophancy within the party.
He urged party members to prioritise unity, principle, and national interest over individual gain, stressing that excessive praise-singing undermines the party’s core values.
“It saddens me when I see so much sycophancy creeping into our party. Some people seem to believe that singing the praises of a leader is the only way they can survive politically. That is why you hear calls for a so-called third term. It is nothing but pure sycophancy and bootlicking of the highest order,” he said.
Kwetey recalled that the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, founder of the NDC, was never pressured to seek a third term, noting that the current calls betray a lack of loyalty to both the party and the country.
“If you truly love this country and this party, you will not engage in such sycophancy. These are people who believe praise will earn them opportunities, but that is not what the NDC stands for,” he added.
