The Ghana Chicago Club and GHANACHI Investments Inc. celebrated its 40th anniversary at the luxurious Alpine Banquets, Darien Illinois on August 4 2018.

The Club is a 501 c 3 not-for-profit, benevolent and investment organization. Promotion of friendship and unity among its members and other associations and organizations in the larger Chicago community are some of the aims and objectives of the Club. They have chalked many achievements in the 40-year history. These include:

• The Club is revered as the primus inter pares in the establishment of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago and singularly instrumental in the creation of the most spectacular African cultural festival in the diaspora, Ghanafest in Chicago. Ghanafest has mushroomed and celebrated independently in the larger Ghanaian diaspora communities across the globe!

• The establishment of the Ga-Dangme Community Organization of Chicago, GACO,
• Played crucial role in a coalition of African Organizations that led to the successful election of the first black mayor of Chicago, the late Mayor Harold Washington in 1983.

• Sponsored many youth-focused sporting events in Ghana and many others.

The event attracted many personalities in the Ghanaian community in support of what is obviously the “grandfather” of all the associations in the community here. The president of the GNC, Paa Kwasi Sam; Togbe Addo and Mama Awushie Adjaho , ceremonial Chief and Queenmother of the Ewe Association respectively, were in attendance to grace and support the club. Also, former President of the GNC, Mr. Clement Timpo, Mr. and Mrs. Berko Akoto of the African Spectrum fame, members of the Prestige club of Chicago and others were there.

Extraordinary planning, great emceeing by Mr. Steve Dei, spellbinding cultural performances by the Maraba Cultural Group, splendid display by a Michael Jackson look alike, magnificent disc Jockey music, cheering, dancing and ecstatic revelers made the celebrations one of a kind and much to be talked about for a long time.

Mr. A.C Eddie Quartey, President of the club, was given an award for the distinguished leadership he provided the club over the years. The Vice President of the group, Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah and the organizing Secretary, Mariam Issaka conducted a successful fundraising event to support the activities of the club.

John Acquaye-Awah, MD, CCD, used the occasion to promote his much talked about book, “The American Doctor: The Boy from an African Village”
