On Saturday, July 23, 2016, internationally-acclaimed undercover journalist, Anas Amereyaw Anas, and rising Hollywood actor, Abraham Attah, both received honorary recognition for their contributions to Africa and humanity.

The pair were honoured at the 4th Annual African Youth Excellence Awards hosted by African Youth Excellence, Inc. (AYE), a nonprofit dedicated to highlighting the accomplishments of African youth.

The ceremony recognises Pursuers, young Africans aged 18-35, pursuing outstanding projects to better their communities in the fields of art, education, information technology, entrepreneurship, innovation, and humanitarianism.

Anas received AYE’s Honorary Award for Excellence in Journalism for his exceptional investigative work. Under complete anonymity, Anas has exposed corruption across Africa: from seedy outlaws to corrupt security officials to fraudulent public servants and Supreme Court judges.

AYE commended the journalist for his continued commitment to human rights and anti-corruption work and for bringing attention to African issues on the global stage.

Abraham Attah received AYE’s Honorary Award for Excellence in Art for his rise to fame. Breaking onto the scene in the Netflix film, Beasts of No Nation, Attah has made the leap from Ghana to Hollywood with an upcoming role in Spiderman Homecoming.

Both Anas and Attah received keys to the city from Mayor Joseph Petty. This honorary recognition is given to esteemed individuals doing outstanding work and symbolises the freedom of the recipient to enter the city anytime as a trusted companion.

In his remarks to Abraham Attah, Mayor Petty noted, “Your award winning performance captivated world audiences; these profound strides serve as an inspiration for other young actors like you. You have a unique and bright future ahead of you.”
