Homecoming for Assin in Diaspora

As part of efforts aimed at complimenting government efforts at mobilizing Ghanaians living abroad for national development citizens of Assin Worakese in the central region living abroad have organized a Home Coming Summit to address the many problems facing the town.

The summit was also used to commission an electrification project and solicit funds to complete a market and a KVIP project According to the coordinator of the summit Michael Baffoe a social worker in Canada, they were motivated by the president’s call to Ghanaians living abroad during the home coming summit in Accra last two years.

According to him their primary objective is to provide jobs for the teeming youth in the town to address the rural urban drift. He commended the government for its support towards the project and lauded the commitment of various stakeho0ldewrs in the project to ensure its success.

On his part Mr. Kofi Asare Amoah who represented the European caucus of the group-said funds for the project was realised through a 350-dollar levy of 80 of their members as well as local contributions. He said it’s their widow’s mite at giving back what their town has given them.

The Krontihene of the town Nana Fosu Gyaebour appealed to government to help bring secondary technical education to the area to give employable skills to the youth of the area. He asked for the construction of the Brofoyedru-achiase road to assist in transporting their farm products to the towns to improve their living conditions.

The summit attracted the Ministers for Lands and Forestry, Manpower Development and Employment as well as the Central Regional Minister, the MP for Assin North Ken Ohene Agyepong and other opinion leaders who commended the group for their step at development and called on others to emulate their efforts.
