Mahama ends activities in UK

President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday ended his four-day official visit to the United Kingdom.

During his visit to the Queen's land, President Mahama held discussions with the international business community and delivered a lecture on Ghana's Economic Transformation at the Chatham House.

He also addressed the Westminster House of Commons on the situation of the Ebola Virus Disease in some countries in the West African sub-region, addressed the UK Black Solicitors Network and opened the UK-Ghana Investment Forum.

President Mahama throughout his engagement in London gave the assurance that his administration would step up measures to transform the economy in the coming years.

The transformation, he said, would be focused on value addition to the primary goods; processing of raw materials into finished goods for export to earn more income than the current state of exporting only raw materials.

President Mahama also gave the assurance on the establishment of gold refineries to process the gold that is mined in the country.

He said cocoa and timber would also receive a boost in the processing industry to create job opportunities for more youth in the coming years.

President Mahama would on Monday, October 27, leave London for Oslo, Norway, where he is expected to hold investment programmes.
