Mfantse Mpontu Kuw in London donates books to some schools

Mfantse Mpontu Kuw, a non-political association of Fantes in London has donated 70,500 exercise books to some schools in Central and Western Regions.

The delivery is to help support parents and pupils in their effort to improve on educational standards in the two Regions.

A statement issued on Monday copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra said the books which were printed locally with funding from the association, were presented to basic schools in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Area in the Western Region, Cape Coast Municipality, Kommenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem District, and Agona District in the Central Region.

Mr. Joe Mensah-Tandoh, President of the association, said “members of the association wanted to support the educational needs of children in Ghana, as they believed that the prosperity of Ghana depends on the education and skills of the younger generation”.

“The association is aware of the many challenges facing the educational system in the country, including improving facilities, standards and performance of children. We therefore intend to continue supporting the educational needs of children particularly from socially and economically deprived backgrounds in Ghana.”

Mr. Mensah-Tandoh explained that, the donation was only the start of long term plans by the association to give support to sectors in need.

“The association intends to liaise with people working in the education directorates in the districts to identify areas where resources can be better channelled to make the highest and enduring impact most beneficial to the children’s education,” he said.

The association with about 200 members, was established in 1967 as a non-political association of Fantes to promote and maintain Fante language in the UK, culture and traditions.

In addition, it was to foster good relationship among Fantes, support and promote the welfare of its members.**
