Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has called on Ghanaians in the diaspora to strengthen partnerships that support Ghana’s development during a Christmas concert organized by Tema Choir USA in Woodbridge, Virginia.
Speaking at the “Silent Night” Christmas Concert, held at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, which featured performances by Tema Choir USA, the Tema Youth Choir from Ghana, and the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Choir, Ambassador Smith praised the choirs for their artistry and discipline.
“What we have witnessed this evening is sheer talent. The harmony reminds us of the great potential within the Ghanaian spirit both at home and abroad,” he said, invoking Shakespeare’s words: “If music be the food of love, play on give me excess of it.”
The Ambassador encouraged Ghanaians in the diaspora to channel their talent, time and resources into Ghana’s development, urging, “Let us reconnect, reinvest and return, each in our own way, to contribute to a stronger and better Ghana.
The early bird catches the worm; let us take the lead in shaping Ghana’s renaissance.”
He also conveyed seasonal greetings from President John Dramani Mahama, highlighting efforts to stabilize the economy and restore investor confidence.
“The economy has been stabilized, the exchange rate is under control, inflation is being managed prudently and Ghana is open and ready, for business once again,” Ambassador Smith said.
Noting Ghana’s strategic position as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, he added, “There is no better time than now to be part of Ghana’s new growth story.
"Our gold, oil and gas, cocoa, bauxite and emerging resources like lithium are beginning to yield greater dividends.”
The Ambassador thanked the organizers for the invitation and wished guests a Merry Christmas, closing with his familiar call, “Let’s think Ghana first.”
