Agave Dev't Association Celebrate 10th Anniversary

...With Ghanaian Culture Of Extravaganza!!!.

T The Agave Development Association UK and Ireland (ADA UK) is an association formed by people from Agave in the South Tongu District, Volta Region, Ghana. The state of Agave shares its borders with towns such as Anlo, Avenor, Mafi, Fievie, Sokpoe, Tefle, Ada and Sogakofe is the district capital. Members of the association originated from the various towns and villages in Agave like Dabala, Adutor, Gonu, Agbakofe, Agordome, Asidowui, Adigblikofe, Agorhome etc.
The 1st May 2010 was a historic milestone for ADA UK. Despite the rather mixed English weather, spirits were high among members and their guests during the 10th Anniversary Fund Raising Dinner Dance at The Imperial Hotel, Elizabethan Hall, Russell Square in London.
His Excellency, Prof. Kwaku Danso-Boafo, The Ghana High Commissioner to UK & Ireland was the special guest of honour and he was accompanied to the event by Mr. & Mrs. Coffie- Deputy Welfare Counsellor and some of his officers. The chairman of the occasion Mr. Charles Allotey and his wife, Rosemary Allotey both eminent solicitors of Charles Allotey & Co. London were among the special guests. The occasion was graced by Nana Sakyiabea (Mpounahemaa of Akuapem Kuronti Division) and Naa Amerley Obroni Operku III (Asafoanye of Osu Adjumako and Osu Asante) , also present were Mr. Richard Dosoo OBE and Mrs. Abi Dosoo, Rev. & Mrs. Sylvanus Tettey- Ghanaian Chaplain to the UK and Mr. William Boateng a retired Accountant. There were representatives from various Ghanaian associations, organisations and groups who happily joined in the fundraising towards the Early Learning Centres in the Agave District –Ghana.
Other specially invited guests were Dr. Lawrence Akwetey an Economist, Mr. Edem Amegashie, Manager of the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Company UK. Also present was the Managing Director of Gillman and Sons Limited and a Colleague from his organisation.
In his welcoming address, Mr Kabu Charway, Chairman of Agave Development Association said that ADA UK has been full of energy and creativity over the past 10 years and has grown to become one of the contributors in the communities in the Diaspora and in Ghana.
He briefly re-countered on the history of Agave Development Association and said that it has a long, interesting, enviable and proud historic background. He described the formation of Agave Development Association as an intricate web of need, passion, commitment and selflessness. Mr Kabu Charway paid a special tribute to Mrs. Mercy Adede Bolus the Vice Chairperson who is a Public Health Specialist and a member of the Guildford branch of CMI Management Committee, for her vision, innovation and dynamism in the formation of the association. He also commended Mr Franklin Dornu Agbloe a Quantity Surveyor, Mr Charles Kagatse, Mr Samuel Banini who are all Council of Elders of the association for their wisdom and guidance offered from the formation of the Association to date. Mr. Charway also thanked Mr Anthony Azanu, Mr Julius Gamor and Mr John Olympio for being instrumental in the formation of ADA UK which has brought a good idea to fruition. He congratulated all the members, commended his executives and thanked all the guests for their support and warm company.
Recognition was also given to Mr. Jacob Amusu the Project Leader and an IT Engineer, and Ms. Gladys Gafrey a Professional Accountant and a Panelist for one of the ACCA’s London Networks who are both executives of the association for working tirelessly to ensure that the key projects are successfully implemented.
Mrs. Mercy Bolus told members that ADA UK is blessed to have a high calibre of members with a wide range of skills and experience and they must strive to use their expertise to support good causes in Agave and help transform the area in order to enhance the lives of the people.
Mr Charles Allotey, the chairman for the evening congratulated the members of ADA UK for their good work and commitments towards a good cause. He said that he was particularly impressed by the video, which showed various health centres, and educational projects, which the association has successfully undertaken in the Agave District. Mr Allotey also commented that as a lawyer, the video was without doubt, a clear evidence of activities by Agave Development Association over the years. He acknowledged that by showing the video to the public, the Association has shown accountability to the public by indicating where, how and what their donations have been spent on. Mr Charles Allotey also applauded the association’s commitment to support Early Learning Project, the theme for the fund raising dinner dance for the evening.
The High Commissioner, Prof. Kwaku Danso-Boafo emphasised for Ghanaians to maintain good relationships amongst themselves irrespective of their political colours and must remember that individually they are also representing Ghana in the Diaspora. He said that the High Commission is freely accessible by all Ghanaians of all sorts of lives and that he plans to meet Ghanaians in the UK communities to work towards one Ghana.
Distinguished awards were presented to:- Mrs Mercy Adede Bolus, Mr Hudson Kodjo Ablordeppey and Mrs Dora Goka. A certificate of appreciation was awarded to Jacklyn Dabah for her services to the association.
Other active members of the association include Dr. Gershon Ahadzi, Ms. Pat Gafrey a Social Worker, Mrs. Faustina Sai, Ms Millicent Peregrino-Addo, Mr. Michael Amemasor, Ms. Margaret Odonkor and Ms. Esther Gbeve.
The fantastic Mr.Samuel Tsatsu Acolatse was the Master of Ceremony who conducted the evening with grace, vigour and humour.
