Kwame Nkrumah @ 100 Launched in London

The Convention People’s Party UK & Ireland in conjunction with 24 Progressive African/Caribbean Community Organisations and Trade Unions launched the Centenary Anniversary Celebration of OSAGYEFO DR KWAME NKRUMAH’S birthday in the UK with a Multi-Faith Service at the New Testament Church of God (NTCG) Brixton Hill in London, United Kingdom on Sunday 6th September 2009.

The launch programme started at 5.30pm with invited guest from the UK’s African/Caribbean community including members of the African/Caribbean Diplomatic Corps, Ministers of the Gospel, the Muslim Community, Traditional Chiefs, representatives of the British Political establishment, representatives of the trade unions, the elderly, youth and children were ushered in to their seats with the beating of traditional African drums in the background.

At 6pm the New Testament Worship Choir led the congregation with songs of praise and worship, followed by a welcome and opening remark by Rev Dr Rudolph Parkinson Senior Pastor (NTCG).

The Moderator of the evening Rev Hewie Andrew of the Multi-Faith Service (KN@100 Planning Committee) introduced the programme by giving a summary of the background to the evening, followed by traditional African Prayer, Muslim Prayer and finally a Christian Prayer by Rev Rose Hudson-Wilkin of the Church of England.

The congregation were then led by the Educational Secretary of the CPP UK Mr Kwami Agbodza supported by the NTCG Worship Choir to sing the Hymn ‘Lead Kindly Light’ the CPP’s song.

Other activities during the evening included Children’s presentation of the life of Dr Nkrumah, song ministration by a Soloist, a special presentation of ‘The Legacy of Kwame Nkrumah and the Pan-Africanist Call to Duty’ by Brother Mbandaka.

The evening ended with the singing of the hymn ‘Bind us together’ led by the Worship Choir. Vote of thanks was given by Brother Omowale of the KN@100 Planning Committee.

The 100th anniversary events in the UK will continues as follows:

1. The main Commemoration and celebration in the community: Saturday 19th September 2009, 2pm-8pm. at Peckham Academy, 107 Peckham Road, Peckham, London, SE15 5DZ (Entry is Free-Nearest British Rail: Peckham Rye).

2. Main Multi-Faith Thanks Giving Service:

Sunday 27th September 2007 at Westminster, 2pm-5pm, at Methodist Central Hall, Storeys Gate, Westminster, London, SW1H 9NH (Entry is Free-Nearest Tube: Westminster). 60 Ambassadors and High Commissioners, Members of the British Parliament, Main British and Ghanaian political parties in the UK, Trade Unions, Ghanaian Chiefs and organizations, are invited to this event.

3. KN@100 Educational Workshops will be held every Friday from 25th September 2009 to 31st October 2009 (inclusive) 7pm-9.30pm at 44-46 Offley Road, The Oval, London, SW9 0LS (Entry is Free-Nearest Tube, Oval).
