NDC (UK AND IRELAND) – Celebates With Prayer For Peaceful Election

NDC (UK and Ireland) celebrated the party’s 16th anniversary in style with a barbecue. This was followed with weeklong prayers for peaceful elections leading to the 48 Republic Day Celebration. To crown the events a church service of thanksgiving and prayer for peace was held last Saturday at High Cross Church in North London.

The NDC (United Kingdom and Ireland) declares “As we approach once again the critical moment of our national election on 7th December, let us meet the new crossroads in our history with our best efforts to make it an Honest, Orderly, Transparent and Peaceful Election. Being in a democracy, this is the Covenant of Hope that are all must enjoin to give for our country a peaceful heritage and future”.

To ensure credible results from the coming election, we call on everybody, both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians and all parties, both government and opposition, and all groups to CHAMPION the cause of democratic election that express the will of the people by ensuring it to be Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful and Peaceful. We indict the Electoral Commission and the government as major players in this endeavour.

We believe we must disapprove, reject and condemn as immoral and wrong all acts of violence and cheating, in favour of or against any candidate. Let both candidates and their supporters face the judgment of democratic election with humility and magnanimity. The recent events of the NPP is a matter of serious concern to all peace-loving Ghanaians

The officiating minister, Rev S Tettey, Ghanaian minister for London of the URC preached on the theme “On political leaders as the shepherd of God’s people”. He said Ghana needs leaders who will exhibit MORAL EXECELLENCE: EMULATING KINGDOM VALUES SUCH AS HONESTY, INTEGRITY, JUSTICE, PEACE, LOVE, UNITY, DISCIPLINE, KINDNESS AND SYMPATHY.

He continued, “We need leadership that serves the people and promotes respect for all” …and that we owe a duty to ensure such leaders emerge We exhort everyone to be vigilant, to pray and to offer themselves as servants of our nation. Let us accompany this with extreme dedication and prayer in this crucial period of campaigning, voters’ education and registration, transporting of election materials, poll watching, and especially, the canvassing and reporting of the votes. May the hand of God stop evil from getting in control of our works. We need the Lord’s help, without which our best efforts will come to nothing. Thus, we urge everyone to invoke the grace if the Holy Spirit to guide our people in this electoral exercise, for the renewal of our country towards genuine common good.

We want this exhortation to reach every Ghanaians. Let us be one in prayer, sacrifice and vigilance. In a particular, we request prayers of our religious leaders; there are more than a thousand of them all over the country. Let us all condemn the violence that have characterised the primaries of the NPP. We entreat them to see seeking office as offer to serve and not to lord the people God bless Ghana and all her people.
