MP meets Offinsoman union of Virginia

Dr. Owusu Achaw Duah, MP for Offinso-south constituency, met the Offinso people in Virginia and apprised them of the events at home. He advised them to be law abiding and always not forget their roots and also do something for their people back home

He said the people of Ghana appreciate the contribution being made by Ghanaians in the diaspora. He stated that as of 1999 money transfers from Ghanaians in the diaspora stood at $900 million but by 2007, it hovers around $2.4 billion. Dr. Duah encouraged them to sacrifice more towards development so that their people can enjoy more prosperity and peace in the country.

Dr. Duah pleaded with the Offinso people in Virginia to identify projects which they can initiate in Offinso, more so of income generating businesses and activities that would economically empower the people of Offinso. Dr. Duah challenged them to take initiatives and calculated risks to get involved in business initiatives in Offinso.

Dr. Duah enumerated some of the problems being encountered in Offinso- including water, sanitation, health, education, information technology , communication, lack of suitable libraries and other educational resources such as computers and teaching aids, markets and clinics.

Mr. James Owusu Kwarteng, the financial secretary of the union urged the MP to identify the potential leader in the Offinso traditional council and work with them. He said that forming effective alliance with the council will enhance development and work towards a common goal.

Mr. Stephen Mensah, the secretary of the union also showed concern on responsibilities and accountability on the part of the leaders in the district. He further on urged the MP to show support in having our District Chief Executives (DCE) elected than being nominated when ever it comes up as a national debate.

The Offinso people in Virginia in their response said they were happy to have fruitful discussion with their MP . The President of the union Mr. Isaac Owusu Ansah said they were very much encouraged by the MP’s visit and that they were going to be very supportive of any meaningful development projects in Offinso.
