Twi version of US national anthem expected

A Twi version of the in United States (US) national anthem, to be recorded by a US-based Ghanaian musician is expected out "soon". The Musician prefers to remain anonymous, because according to him, "I don't have my papers yet", which is a Ghanaian parlance for an illegal immigrant.

A Spanish version was released this week which kicked off a political firestorm that reached all the way to the White House.

Talking to this reporter over the phone, in Twi, the anonymous musician said "I got the idea when I heard the Spanish version of the [US] national anthem, and the controversy it generated. Immediately I felt I had to do one for 'Ofie Nipa' since I am an old time musician"

"My brother, 23% of the New York population is Ghanaian and I want to make this as a tribute to them - both legal and illegal" he added.

"Are you sure 20% of the New Yorkers are Ghanaians" this reporter asked.

"My brother, I have lived here for 25 years and I know what I am talking about. It can even be more" he replied.

"Onua, I called you because I need sponsors. My budget for this project is around $10,000? he continued.
The new take on The Star-Spangled Banner to be called "Aha so ye fie" - This is also our homeland - is not expected out any time soon.
