Veep Meets Embassy Staff And Section Of Ghanaian Students In India

THERE is no incentive for the government to impose hardship on Ghanaians , the Vice-President, Mr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has emphasized.

He said it would be an act of ingratitude on the part of government to inflict hardships on the electorate who voted massively for it in the 2012 presidential and parliamentary election.

According to him, there were both good and bad times in the history of a nation and was rather unfortunate that Ghana today was going through challenges which had impacted negatively on the lives of the people.

Mr Amissah-Arthur was interacting with officials and spouses of the Ghana High Commission in India and a section of Ghanaian students studying in India at the Chancery in New Delhi on Tuesday .

The ceremony was organized by the commission led by the High Commissioner, Mr. Sam Pee Yalley to welcome the Vice-President who is in India to participate in a four day Indian Economic Forum.

According to him, it would be morally indefensible for the government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be insensitive to the plight of the very masses who braved the odds to form long queues to vote it into power in the last general election.

The Vice-President said knowing very well that the party would go back to the electorate to renew its mandate in the 2016 election, it would be counter-productive to its aspirations to subject the vast majority of the people to untold hardships.

He , therefore, enjoined the rank and file of the masses to continue to keep faith with the government and bear with it as it strove to find lasting solutions to problems which had bedeviled the economy and were affecting their living standards.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur told the gathering that he was in India to explore for more investment opportunities in the areas of agriculture, mining, tourism and information technology.

He said considering the rising expectations of the broad masses of the people in comparison with severe budgetary constraints, it was prudent for the government to look for more investment to meet such demands.

The Vice-President urged the students to be law abiding and concentrate on their studies to transform them into for productive and responsible people for Ghana's future development.
