UK Tastes CPP Resurgence

The United Kingdom has experienced the full force and spectrum of CPP resurgence with the recent visit of the CPP’s Presidential Candidate, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom to the UK.

The CPP dominated the airwaves during the visit with live radio interviews by WBLS Radio, Radio Focus, Rainbow Radio, Kasapa Radio, and publicity on Voice of Africa Radio (VOAR) and HOT FM.

BEN TV also interviewed Dr Nduom and broadcasted the interview on the Monday 7th April 2008.

The CPP delegation comprising Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom and Mr David Ampofo, Strategist and Chief Spokesman for Dr Nduom, arrived in the UK on the morning of the 3rd April for a 4 day visit.

The visit was designed by the CPP to enable Dr Nduom meet Ghanaians in the UK, listen and learn from their concerns, communicate Dr Nduom and the CPP’s message to the political and business establishment in the UK. Dr Nduom and a CPP team thus met the Labour Party at the British Parliamentary offices hosted by Christine Russell MP and other members of the Parliamentary All Party Committee on Ghana and Nabilla Sattar, a Manager with the Labour Party International team. The CPP team put across its core values and vision for Ghana as well as a desire to work closer with the Labour Party. The CPP team also had a meeting at the House of Lords, the second chamber of the British Parliament, hosted by Lord Avebury, Liberal Democrat Party Lords Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs. The delegation thanked Lord Avebury for his long battle and effort on Ghanaian human rights and continuing interest on Ghanaian affairs. An official of Liberal International was also in attendance, and explored the possibility of the CPP becoming a member of Liberal International. Dr Nduom and a delegation later met the West Africa Business Association (WABA) hosted by Brigadier Hamish Macgregor and the Chairman of WABA Mr Peter Banner OBE. Dr Nduom’s main message to WABA was that overwhelmingly our people are crying out for Jobs and the CPP was determined to use the power of Government to create the much needed jobs, that the business community can assist in this but the CPP’s focus was to strengthen Ghana’s businesses to compete better as well as help business people with an interest in Ghana to create jobs for Ghanaians. Ms Samia Yaba Nkrumah who arrived in the UK at the invitation of the UK & Ireland Branch of the CPP participated in the CPP programme in the UK and joined an entourage visiting the Zongo Chief and Moslem Executive at worship at their Mosque in Lawrence Road , off West Green Road, Tottenham. Dr Nduom’s message to the Moslem worshippers was that the CPP will ensure a new Moslem Council in Ghana under the CPP ends the trauma experienced by Moslems currently traveling to Hajj every year. A meeting at the British Foreign and Commonwealth office provided Dr Nduom and a CPP team the opportunity to explore relations between Britain and Ghana under a CPP government. The main event of the tour, a fund raising “Evening with Dr Nduom” was well attended and raised funds for the CPP. A CPP team including Samia Nkrumah did a shop to shop tour of Dalston Market, Ridley Road, London, where the team visited Ghanaian businesses and listened to the concerns of owners and shoppers alike. The team was enthusiastically received by Ghanaians in the shops and on the streets, almost bringing traffic to a standstill in the neighbourhood; Ghanaian shoppers tooted their car horns in support of the CPP. On Sunday 6th April Dr Nduom and a CPP team worshiped at the Trinity Baptist Church in West Norwood, South London. Trinity has a mainly Ghanaian congregation of over 2000 and was allowed to address the congregation. The congregation was warmly enthusiastic with some offering their details etc to join the party.

Dr Nduom also had the opportunity to meet and put forward his and the CPP’s vision for Ghana to the FDI Editor of the Financial Times, Courtney Fingar, before his delegation returned to Ghana.

The enthusiastic and overwhelming support that greeted the CPP team wherever they went during Dr Nduom’s UK tour is testament to the growing awareness by Ghanaian and non-Ghanaian alike of the resurgence of the CPP and its march to government in JANUARY 2009.

Forward Ever!!! Long Live Ghana’s Democracy.
