Two foreign students present dual desks

Kumasi, Aug. 13, GNA - Miss Karen Sarfo-Barnieh a student of Holy Cross and Master Joshua Rodrigues, a student of Richard Challoner School both in London have presented dual desks worth 500 pounds to authorities of Kokofu-Asaman Roman Catholic School in Amansie East District. The 60 dual desks were to enhance teaching and learning in the school.

Miss Sarfo-Barnieh, a native of Kokofu-Asaman presenting the desks on Tuesday said she recognized the need to assist the community with educational resources and therefore, solicited for funds from her friends in London and was able to raise the money to assist the school. She was optimistic more funds would be made available to improve on the living standards of the people and advised the pupils to study hard since education was the key to ultimate success. Nana Appiah Kubi, Krontihene of the town, receiving the desks on behalf of the school, expressed appreciation to the students and assured them that they would be well maintained to prolong their life span. He called on citizens of Kokofu-Asaman at home and abroad to emulate their gesture and contribute to develop the community.

Mr Samuel Ansah, Amansie East District Director of Education, said education was the best legacy for children, and urged parents to take advantage of the Capitation Grant and School Feeding Programme to send their children to school.

He appealed to teachers to accept postings to rural communities and desist from absenteeism to improve on the standard of teaching and learning in rural areas.
