The city of Columbus recently was in the spotlight celebrating the dedication and colorful opening of one of the biggest African churches in America; Glory Temple; Jesus Power Assembly of God Church (JPAGC). The hosts, Rev. and Mrs Bismark Akomeah and Associate Pastor; Rev. Ofosu Atta. The distinguished guest of honor to grace the occasion was; Dr. George O. Wood, General Superintendent (Chief executive officer of the Assemblies of God), Rev. & Mrs Alfred Nyamekye, General Overseer of House of Faith Ministries and members of the clergy representing many churches from around the USA, Europe and Africa. *

REVEREND BISMARK AKOMEAH – “THE MAN, HIS VISION” by Bailon Afful Columbus Ohio

The metropolis of Columbus, Ohio was recently the cynosure of the state, especially among the fast growing immigrant population with an event that beholds the eye.

All eyes and roads once again led to 5215 Cleveland Avenue with the dedication and colorful opening ceremony of the Glory Temple, a new sanctuary of worship for the Jesus Power Assembly of God Church (JPAGC).

This fairly young church is led by the affable and humble Reverend Bismark Osei Akomeah, who though was never cradled in the lap of luxury has enormous courage in his convictions and visions that is endowed unto him by his maker.

The multi-purpose Glory Temple which sits over an approximate 62,000 square feet and estimated in excess of $2.5 million, seats 1,500.

Many are called, but few, the bible says are chosen and "it cannot be denied that Rev Akomeah is one of the chosen ones to be the stewards of the Lord,"

Born in a little village of Asokwa in the Ashanti region of Ghana, the Reverend Akomeah revealed in a recent interview that he has been serving the Lord with his effort and substance for quite sometime now and in a transit flight from Amsterdam to Houston, Texas in 2000 received a visitation from God.

According to him it came to him in the form of a dream where he said the Lord instructed him to move from Houston to Columbus.

“The instruction asked me to move my wife and family to Columbus, a place where I did not know anyone, to start a church that will bring salvation to the growing immigrant population which was going astray,” he said.

Surreal as it may sound, but in obedience to such a divine precept, Rev. Akomeah quit his job and headed for Columbus where upon arriving started the church in his basement and shortly thereafter the storehouse of the Living Word Chapel and then to the auditorium of the Brookhaven High School.

His miraculous accomplishments and manifestations of the divine events in the church rapidly spread among the metropolis and without, thus prompting the leadership to seek a permanent abode of worship.

In 2003, the church raised money and acquired a property which culminated in the building of a 350 – seater worship facility.

Revered locally, nationally and internationally as a compassionate visionary, the senior pastor comes with poignant humility and stated blandness with his congregation.

Such congenital traits of Rev. Akomeah once again expanded the congregation and the visionary that he has always been proposed the building of an even bigger worship sanctuary which resulted in the groundbreaking of Glory Temple in the fall of 2009.

With the hand of God, faith and transparency that the church has always exhibited, Glory Temple was constructed in a time when all that one hears is recession, recession even of the American economy, touted to be the rich economy in the world.

With Rev Akomeah’s august passion for wining souls and the desire to expand the kingdom of God, the church has planted other churches in Atlanta, Georgia, Cincinnati, Ohio, the Swahili and French churches in Columbus and membership spanning Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Tanzania, Haiti, St. Lucia, the United States and of course Ghana.

In September of 2005, Reverend Bismark Akomeah was ordained a Reverend Minister by the Ohio District Council of Assemblies of God and in that same year Jesus Power Assembly of God was recognized among 14 other churches as Transformational churches by the General Council of Assembly of God, USA.

At the dedication ceremony the Reverend Dr. George O. Wood, General Superintendent of Assembly of God USA cut the ribbon and also preached the sermon which saw such notable men of God such as Rev John Wootton (Ohio District Superintendent A/G), Rev Scott Temple (Director of Ethnic Relations A/G), Rev. Samuel Asiedu (President of African Assemblies of God Fellowship, USA) Rev. Dr. Frank Ofosu Appiah (Senior Pastor of All Nations Church in Norcross, Atlanta) and Rev. Alfred Nyamekye of House of Faith Ministries in Ghana, not to talk about the crème de la crème of pastors in and around the city of Columbus.

Rev Akomeah is married to his lovely wife Mama Linda and they have 4 kids; Miriam, Bismark Jnr, Miriam and Joella.
