Students from Elon University present items to people of Sokode

Ho, Jan. 09, GNA - A group of students from Elon University in the United States of America on Monday presented educational materials worth 600 dollars and 25 million cedis cash to the chiefs and people of Sokode near Ho.

The presentation was to boost education in the area. Professor Brian Digre, a Lecturer and leader of the group said the gesture was to provide opportunity to under-privileged children in the community to have access to education.

He said the presentation was contributions from students committed to assist their counterparts in Sokode and was optimistic the items would be well utilised.

Prof. Digre enstooled development chief of the area, under the stool name Togbe Dake, announced that the group would facilitate approval of a proposal from the community for a Heifer Project this year.

He said the project would empower women and educate the community on environmental hygiene and improve their living standards. Mama Juliana Danku, Queenmother of Sokode Traditional Area who received the items on behalf of the community pledged that it would be well utilised to improve academic performance of students in the community.

Captain George Nfordjo (Rtd), Member of Parliament for Ho Central, underscored the importance of education and encouraged parents not to relent in educating their children.
