Sebastina Boakye -Ghana Rep in Miss Africa New Jersey

Sebastina Boakye to Represent Ghana in Miss Africa New Jersey 2013

My name is Sebastina Boakye, I am also known to some as Sebby. I was born and raised in Accra, Ghana and I am the first child of four. I am a nineteen years old, third year student at SUNY New Paltz. I graduated from Bronx Expeditionary Learning High School in 2010 with Honors and also as a member of the National Honor Society.

I graduated from High school a year early and since then I’ve been concentrating on Pre Med in the hopes of getting into a good medical school after my college education. I’m majoring in Psychobiology and I have a minor in Black studies. I want to become an orthopedic surgeon specializing in the reconstruction of bones. As the eldest daughter, I believe that it is my duty to set a good example for my younger siblings to follow and that is why I make education my first priority in life.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking with my friends, reading, watching movies, participating in activities on campus and modeling. I grew up with my grandmother and I promised her that I would become a doctor to personally take care of her when she is ill. I have always had the intention of getting into the health field since I was young. I have dreamed of building my own private hospital in Ghana that would provide patients with the right equipment needed for surgeries.

I was very passionate about the idea of fixing broken bones and other concerns related to orthopedics until recently. My father and maternal father were both diagnosed with diabetes. I became so passionate about this because there are many people who are diagnosed with diabetes but do not have the finances for the treatment. Diabetes runs in my family and I see how a lot of money is being spent just to get it treated.

My grandfather almost passed away due to the lack of finance for the treatment. For that reason, my platform is to find a way to help treat and prevent diabetes in Ghana. My ultimate goal is to find an affordable way to get resources in Ghana to help treat diabetes and educate the people on how to prevent diabetes by watching what they eat.
