Road-map to development in Kwahu-Ghana

—2020 vision in Amsterdam:

Modena-Italy--Kwahuman Europe Association holds its 5th regional conference in Amsterdam, Holland, to discuss among others, the upgrading of its development plans for Kwahu traditional area from Friday, 9th—11 December 2011. The 3-day conference will be attended by delegates drawn from its regional chapters-- Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Netherlands. The General Secretary of Kwahuman Europe, Mr. David Forson aka Owura Asante announced this at National Executives meeting of Kwahuman Association of Italy held in Modena and attended by local Kwahuman Associations from Brescia, Verona, Milano, Mantova, and Modena. He says Observers from the association’s sister organization in the USA, are expected to attend the conference and named Mr. Kojo Fosu, chairman, Board of Directors of Okwahu United of USA and Canada as special guest of honor.

Mr. Asante hints that Kwahuman Europe Association will unveil its 2020 road map—a vision-- designed to accelerate socio-economic development of the Kwahu traditional area, with greater emphasis on education and health. “It is the vision of Kwahuman Europe led by its President, Dr.Abena Keller-Agyepong, an analytical psychologist, based in Zurich, Switzerland, to raise not only the health and economic status of the people of the area, but also the standard of education in the Kwahu district, adding, “education is the tool of empowerment for any growing nation to help its citizens make informed and hard choices on life and living,” he further indicates.

The Secretary reveals that a report compiled by Mr. Kojo Fosu, chairman, Board of Directors of Okwawu United of North America & Canada after inspection of conditions of schools in the area indicates “not only disturbing factors but shocking conditions under which most of the schools operate.

“The schools lack basic sanitary facilities, like toilets and good drinking water, furniture, even a desk to sit on, which calls for immediate attention and measures to improve such deplorable conditions”.

The dilapidated conditions of the schools were brought to the attention of Executive and Members of Kwahuman Associations at a 4-day World Conference held in New York in last September, 2011.

Education was identified at the end of the Conference as the main focus arising from the vision of 2020. It was unanimously agreed upon that renovation of all primary schools in the Traditional area and the provision of basic amenities where it's lacked, will be the primary goal adopted by both Continental Unions in collaboration with KDA (Kwahu Development Association) and the local Chiefs.

On its ongoing educational plan, the Association says, steps have already been taken towards making its vision on education a reality. “A library once started and later abandoned after the death of its owner has been adopted by Kwahuman USA for renovation, with the aim of reviving it to serve the entire traditional area.

“Mr. Steve Darkwah, Secretary General of Okwawu United of USA& Canada and Vice President of Kwahuman New York is currently in Ghana overseeing the renovation of the Library at Pepease after which the library will be stocked with books, computers and amenities which will make it a modern library to be used by schools and all in the area . Mr. Darkwah will stay until the completion of this project and hand it over before his return to the United States”.

In Europe, reveals the Association, the City Council of Antwerp-Belgium, has donated ICT equipment worth 12000 Euros to Kwahuman Belgium. “With assistance from the city council, and in collaboration with Kwahuman Europe, an ICT center will be built in Kwahu Aduamoah to be patronized free-of-charge by all citizens in the area and beyond.

“Additional support for this project will be provided by Kwahumnan Switzerland by supplying additional computers donated by Medtronic, a medical manufacturing company based in Lausanne- Switzerland. The cost for shipping the computers was born by members of Kwahuman Association Switzerland. Kwahu Aduamoah citizens in the USA, UK, local chiefs and citizens of Aduamoah have also contributed in cash or kind to the project.

“Sword cutting ceremony for this ICT has been planned at Kwahu-Aduamoah by January 2012”

Dr. Abena Keller-Agyepong says in a press interview that “the ongoing unity among Kwahu Citizens, home and abroad, is a welcoming development and demonstrates the good will and benevolence nature of Kwahu citizens”.

She urged all Professionals from the Kwahu Traditional area, philanthropists and other well wishers in Ghana and abroad to come together to form a network of “think- tank of experts”, who will be willing to offer their expertise on issues related to their fields in a bid to creating a highly sustainable projects which will be of beneficial to the people in the area and Ghana as a whole.
