RE: Open Letter To The New Ghanaian Ambassador To Italy

Dear Joseph,

I have read your email this morning, and I really hope you have not sent your attached letter.

With all due respect the letter comes across as one seeking mere media attention than actual progress at Ghana's Embassy in Rome and the betterment of the quality of life for Ghanaians in Italy.

I commend you for your good ideas but I am compelled to advise that the presentation comes across as condescending, even disrespectful to a man on a new posting who has not even been welcomed by his 'well-meaning advisor'. Is this letter meant to endear the writer and his colleagues to the new ambassador or give him the impression that 'Ghanaians in Italy' prefer to address and be addressed in a not-so-friendly manner.

I sympathize with the fact that your anxieties may be the cause of recent history but visiting the punishment for the father's sins on the son, in this case, is not fair.

You are a good man and I trust you know that you can get more more out of most humans with a kind word than a harsh one. The following approach would bear better fruit:

1. a hearty welcome.

a scheduled meeting or courtesy call with a union or opinion leaders. a letter of gratitude for the meeting to set the tone for warm-hearted communication and activity on your requests.

That is a civilized way to set the ball rolling. You get to know the persons and manner of those you are communicating with thus facilitating a spirit of trust and mutual respect.

On the subject of your first correspondence with your Ambassador being an 'open letter', permit me to ask this: Would like your favourite sibling or friend to disclose the contents of their correspondence to others when it is expressly addressed to you?

As I stated earlier, the ideas may be well meaning but the presentation could use some work.

As you know, sometimes, in our desperate efforts to heal a wound in haste we contaminate it.

If you need any help please do not hesitate to contact me.
