Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand calls for greater economic and technical cooperation between Ghana and Thailand

Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Thailand, His Excellency Mr. Daniel Kwasi Abodakpi has assured His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of the Government of Ghana’s commitment to further deepen relations with the Kingdom in all fields of endeavour, especially in the areas of trade and investment as well as technical and cultural cooperation.

His Excellency Abodakpi made these remarks at a Ceremony for the Presentation of his Letters of Credence to His Majesty the King through His Royal Highness Maha Vajiralongkorn, the Crown Prince of Thailand as Ambassador of Ghana to Thailand with residence in Malaysia.

During his interaction with the Crown Prince, the Ambassador conveyed fraternal greetings from His Excellency Professor John Evans Atta Mills, and the best wishes of the Government and people of Ghana to His Majesty the King and through him to the Government and people of the Kingdom of Thailand.

He further briefed the Crown Prince on current political and economic developments in Ghana and the efforts the government was making to put Ghana’s economy on a sound footing. He underscored the importance Ghana attached to her relations with the Kingdom of Thailand and assured him of the current Government’s commitment to further deepen the ties between the two countries, especially in the area of economic and technical co-operation for the mutual benefit of our two peoples.

His Excellency also assured the King of his personal commitment to further deepen the friendly relations between the two countries, during his tour of duty.

Responding, the Crown Prince noted with gratification, the value Ghana attached to the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. This, according to him was in line with the thrust of Thailand’s policy towards Africa aimed at enhancing cooperation with the continent in the areas of economic, trade and technical cooperation within the spirit of South-South Cooperation as well as the promotion of global peace and stability. He was confident that such cordial relations and mutual goodwill will help strengthen the relations and cooperation in various fields of endeavours at both bilateral and multilateral levels which will further contribute to progress and stability of the two countries.

Meanwhile, whilst in Thailand, His Excellency Mr. Daniel Kwasi Abodakpi paid courtesy calls on senior government officials including the Thai Ministers of Science and Technology, Agriculture and the Chairman of the Board at the Ministry of Commerce, during which he proposed the establishment of various Technical Cooperation Agreements between Ghana and Thailand.

He also briefed captains of industry and business as well as existing and potential investors on the various investment opportunities in Ghana, especially in the agriculture and energy sectors and urged them to consider Ghana as a viable investment destination. As a result of these briefings and discussions, arrangements have been set in motion for a high powered Thai investment delegation to visit Ghana by the end of the first quarter in 2011.

In the meantime, the Minister of Science and Technology of Ghana has been extended an open invitation to visit Thailand at the earliest opportunity for discussions on the establishment of Science and Technology Parks in Ghana as well as to forge cooperation in other areas of scientific endeavour in which Thailand is a leader in the South East Asian region.

The Ambassador also granted audience to the Ghanaian Community in Thailand and briefed them on economic and political developments back home and government’s strategy to vigorously pursue the policies crafted from the ruling NDC’s manifesto and development agenda. He also urged them to explore ways of making the skills and knowledge acquired in Thailand available to their country and compatriots back home as their modest contribution.

He assured them of the Mission’s preparedness to operate an open door policy in extending consular and welfare services to all members of the Ghanaian Community in Thailand in pursuance of government’s objective to protect the interest of Ghanaian citizens abroad.
