Philanthropist donates to Kona Health Centre

Kona (Ash), March 18, GNA - Mr. James Addo, a citizen of Kona in the Afigya Sekyere district of Ashanti based in Australia on Saturday donated items worth 62 million cedis to the Kona Health Centre to improve facilities at the Centre. The items included four wheel chairs, 10 beds and mattresses. Mr. Adu Manuh, brother of the donor who presented the items said the donation was his widow's mite towards the development of the town. He said last year, Mr Addo single handedly provided the health centre with a borehole at the cost of nearly 60 million cedis to help improve water supply system to the Centre. Mr. Benjamin Abankwa, Afigya Sekyere District Chief Executive (DCE) said the government was committed to improving all sectors of the economy, including health to enable the people to receive the needed health delivery. He urged the people to embrace the national health Insurance Scheme and pay their premiums promptly towards the sustenance of the scheme. Dr. Samuel Adjei, the District Director of health Service, who received the items thanked the donor for the gesture and appealed to individuals, organizations and churches to emulate his gesture. He announced that the District Health Directorate has embarked on a special exercise to treat children of complicated malaria and therefore called on mothers to patronize the exercise to improve the health status of the children. Mr. Agyenim Boating, Assembly Member for Kona appealed to the District Assembly to provide the town with additional toilet facilities as well as addressing roof leakage at the Health Centre and electricity outages. Nana Ofori Adasa, Krontihene of Kona hinted that Mr Addo has also planned to support the construction of a library in the town and appealed to the Assembly to assist in releasing land for the project
