Osaka Kongo Rotary Club Donates To School

When the Japan-based Osaka Kongo Rotary Club (2640), a chapter of Rotary International completed the construction of a roofed court and furnished it with three sets of table tennis playing kits for the Asamang Adventist Preparatory school in Ghana last year, the club promised to provide continuous assistance towards the development of the school. To demonstrate its belief in the simple but endearing saying "Continuity Is Strength", the club on June 9, 2011 presented an amount of US$1,200 through the Ghanaian facilitator, Mr. Noah Nkrumah-Adasa to the Asamang Adventist preparatory School in the Afigya Sekyere South District of Ghana.
The amount is meant to support the development of needed infrastructure at the school to cope with its fast expanding enrollment which currently stands at about 400 pupils. The donated money is enough to purchase about 130 units of 50kilo bags of cement for use by the school.

The presentation of the donation was made at the club's weekly meeting which was chaired by the club’s current President, Mr. Takahashi Shigeaki and Manager, Mr. Kamado Kazuo.
Alongside the presentation, a correction officer presented a talk on the importance of providing needed support, guidance and acceptance to ex-convicts in Japan to help them integrate meaningfully into society. The talk was presented under Rotary International's theme for the 2010-2011 fiscal year; "Building Communities, Bridging Continents".

While expressing appreciation to members of the club, the Ghanaian facilitator said he was profoundly touched by the fact that the club is still keeping its promise of continuous support to the school in its development at a time when Japan is still struggling to recover from the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit parts of the country three months ago. The nobility of their club's gesture, he said, stems from the fact that members have wholeheartedly committed themselves to making positive changes in the lives of some children thousands of kilometers away and from whom they obviously cannot expect any paybacks. He promised that the school will commit itself to enlisting the support and communal labor of interested citizens to make maximum use of the club’s donation.
Recounting earlier assistance from the club to the school, Mr. Noah Nkrumah-Adasa said he was pleased that a platform of mutual trust has been built between the Osaka Kongo Rotary club and the Asamang Adventist Preparatory School in Ghana to foster the deepening of international friendship across the continents.

As at now a total amount of US$4,215 has been donated to the Asamang Adventist Preparatory School by the club toward its infrastructure development since July 2006 when the club shipped a consignment of stationary to the school from Japan.
Mr. Noah Nkrumah-Adasa informed the club that their valuable assistance is making positive impacts on the school’s development as well as on the lives of the pupils studying there. He commended the club for carrying out important donor-sponsored projects at the school, which is an indication that members practically started building communities and bridging continents even before that became the selected theme of Rotary International for year 2010-2011.
