Ordaination of REV. YAW ASIEDU IN NY

Bronx, NY --- Ceremony also Involved, the Election of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Mission Field

A man/woman decides to dedicate his life to the work of God. When he/she gets the calling, he is ordained and accepts the responsibility of leading a church or becomes a shepherd to lead the flock of sheep. The initiation process of becoming fully qualified and wearing the pastoral robe to lead the church was exhibited on Sunday, October 24, at the First Ghana SDA Church (The church was used for the event). The man who received the "anointing" or simply ordained was none other than Rev. Yaw Asiedu who would be in charge of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in New York.

The event was officiated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Sam Prempeh, Moderator of the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Rev. Dr. Charles Gyang-Duah, Clerk of General Assembly, PCG and Rev. Moses O. Biney, Chairperson of Overseas Mission Field, USA.

Rev. Dr. Prempeh began the ordination process, first delilvering a sermon with a theme; NO BASIS FOR PRIDE; Reading from 1 Corinthians 4: 1 - 2.

He said; Paul's letter to the Corinthians was to let the leaders know that they should not consider themselves high and mighty but as servants. The gist of the sermon was that: As a Pastor, he should consider himself a servant. A servant must preach what God teaches in the the Bible and through the Holy Spirit. Paul said that he was appointed to manage God's message of Salvation not as one in control of it.

The Moderator gave 4 examples of some of the things expected of The Servant of God:

1) As a servant you have been assigned a responsibility and you will account for it to God in the future.

2) He should bring unity amongst his people so that they all may be one which is the motto of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. He also said that all he would need in the future is the Bible they would present to him. He would find all the solutions to any situation he would face in the Bible.

3) He was challenged to lead an exemplary life so that he can boldly tell his congregation to look at him and use him as a role model. The question was asked: How many of us can say that in our own homes?

4) He was asked to accept the fact that he is a servant of God, a server and should be a "father and mother" to all the members of his congregation without discrimination. He should fall in love with his members so that he can be of service to one and all.

Rev. Asiedu was called to say his vow and his declaration to dedicate his life to serve his almighty and later on was ordained by Rt. Rev. Sam Prempeh and Rt. Rev. Dr. Gyang-Duah. His Pastoral robe was put on and the audience saw the ordained minister standing in front of their midst. There was uncontrollable joy and songs of praises.

Rev. Asiedu in his short address thanked the church for the prayers and support and promised to lead by example and dedicate his life to the work of God. He thanked his wife of over thirty years and his family for their immense support. He also appreciated the fact that his elderly uncle in the audience was ill, but came to witness the ordination of his nephew.

The event was successful and well organized. Ghana's Homepage; Ghanaweb.com, was invited and Mr. Charles Nimmo N. Mensah aka Mr. CNN was there to offer support to Rev. Asiedu and also capture the moment for Ghanaians and Presbyterians all over the globe to see.
