Odoi-Sykes has questions to answer

The Ghana High Commissioner in Canada, Odoi Sykes has a lot of questions to answer to the Ghanaian community. I have nothing against the appointment of Nana Boahene as the Consul General. But I am amazed as to how the High Commissioner has lied blatantly to the community on so many occasions.

When the Ghanaian News, the Toronto Community Newspaper broke the story many months ago about the imminent appointment of Poku Boahene including a picture they took with Boahene himself at an interview confirming the appointment, the High Commissioner went on local radio and angrily accused the Newspaper of lying.

He stated categorically and I quote from that interview because I taped it:"A number of people are being considered for the position which will be made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra" And then he dropped a bombshell: "...and Nana Boahene is not one of theose being considered". What happened then? Who is lying here? And the Newspaper had also hinted a year ago that the Honorary Consulate was going to be upgraded to a full Consulate. Again the High Commissioner denied this and accused the Newspaper of lying.

Now in the light of all these developments which have confirmed EVERYTHING the Ghanaian News had published over the past 18 months, will the High Commissioner, Odoi Sykes do the Honorable thing and apologize to the Ghanaian Community? We respect him but we don't expect him to lie and lie and turn round to accuse newspapers which publish the truth. I believe the community will be very interested in hearing from him. Or will he shut up like politicians do when they are conered with the truth?
