North American Ghanaian Adventist To Meet

In Scranton, Pennsylvania, For Annual Camp Meeting

Over 1000 Ghanaian Adventists residing in United States and Canada will hold their 19th. Camp meeting in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The annual convocation will run from July 16-20, 2008 on the beautiful wooded campus of Marywood University which is about two hour drive from New York City. According to the President of the Coordinating Committee of the North American Ghanaian Adventist organization, Pastor Enoch Affum, “it is expected that camp meeting 2008 will bring together Ghanaian Adventist and their families who will seek to pray, study and socialize as a family preparing to meet Christ.”

The theme for this years’ camp meeting is “Led by His Spirit”. The cream of speakers selected for this year will all speak under the umbrella of the Holy Spirit and its importance in the Christian life. “We have seen the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in the Christian church. We can not succeed without understanding the role the Holy Spirit play in our Christian understanding. That is why we are focusing so much on this important subject of the Christian church” says Pastor IB Boateng, Chairman of Camp Meeting 2008 Program Committee. “We hope by the time the camp meeting is over every camper would be revived and would have a clearer role this member of the Trinity plays in our Christian upbringing.”

The main speaker and the guest of honor is Dr. Emmanuel Osei, senior pastor of London Ghana Seventh-day Adventist Church in South England Conference of SDA Church. Dr Samuel Koranteng-Pipim, a prolific published writer and speaker from University of Michigan will bring the morning devotional messages. Dr Micheal Adjei-Poku, a surgeon from Utah will also give a health seminar entitled “An Adventist Health Life-style for Life.” Dr. Kwabena Donkor, Associate Director, General Conference Biblical Research Institute will give the consecration service. Other speakers who will speak at the camp meeting are Dr Paul Yeboah, Pastor Gabriel Boakye Dankwa, Pastor Kwasi Sarpong, Pastor Enrique Amponsah, Pastor Peter Omane and Ms. Sarah Pokuaa.

According to the organizers, it is expected that many Ghanaians will attend this camp meeting from other parts of the world such as United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, and Ghana. All the campers will have the privilege of attending the early morning prayer service where the pastors will be available to pray and offer counseling services to those with special prayer request. During the Sabbath divine service a progress report covering humanitarian projects embarked upon in Ghana shall be given. Thereafter a special offering shall be collected to begin the construction of a $500,000.00 girl’s dormitory at Valley View University at Oyibi, Accra. The girl’s dormitory will be an income generating project to raise funds to do other projects under the “Operation Reach Back” initiative programs in Ghana such as evangelism, church building construction, sponsorship of lecturers from North America to teach short term classes at Valley View University and other worthy projects.

We believe that by the end of this spiritual feast, participants will understand the power of the Holy Spirit and that individual lifestyles shall be changed to reflect that of Jesus Christ. Married couples will experience the kind of home that will be a little heaven on earth through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. And that none will ever leave the campground without being “led by the Spirit.”
