NPP will surely win 2012 election -Sir John to NPP Italy

... ‘Sir John’ tells NPP Chapters in Italy

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadzo Owusu Afriyie -alias ‘Sir John’ - has stated the Party will surely win Ghana’s election in 2012.

He made the statement whilst addressing Chapters of the NPP wing in Italy at an event held in Schio-Vicenza to raise funds for the Party towards the next election in Ghana.

Accompanied by Charles Owiredu – Director of International Affairs of NPP – the General Secretary had earlier in the day paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Schio, Luigi Dalla Via, who commended Ghanaians in the locality for good behaviour and their hard working abilities. Kwadzo Owusu Afriyie told his Party members the current ruling party in Ghana- the National Democratic Congress (NDC) - has no chance of winning a second term, come 2012, saying it has failed Ghanaians with increasing hardships mentioning among them high increases in taxes. “NPP has learnt a lesson from the previous election in 2008.

We were carried away thinking the winning of the election in that year was a foregone conclusion failing to identify the areas that can cost us. Those mistakes have been corrected and the Party is doing well under its flag bearer, Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to win the election. If we fail, we don’t have anything to win,” he added.

The General Secretary also informed members, an official residence for the flag bearer of the Party is under construction and all its campaigns will be run from that point. He urged the Party followers in the diaspora to work zealously together in helping a better cause to ensure victory in 2012.

Against background stories of division between the leaders of the Party wing in Italy, Kwadzo Owusu Afriyie said no such thing exists and there is only one NPP wing in Italy.

He however called on them to bury any differences that might have existed in the past and work for the Party.

Charles Owiredu, who also spoke at the function, said he is happy with the progress members of the Party in Italy are making. “Looking at some of the mistakes that we made before the elections in 2008, we have a Secretariat to take care of the Party members living abroad where suggestions, enquiries and contributions are being received. We are working on all the external branches to come together under a centralised system,” he

The Director for International Affairs of the Party also repeated the point by the GeneralSecretary saying the NDC has messed up Ghana’s economy in areas of health, education, transportation among others and the NPP will be back to correct that.

“What we need from you to ensure resounding victory in the next election is for all of you to work collectively,” he told his Party members.

The Party’s National Chairman in Italy, Alex Minkah, also addressed members present.

He said Ghana is blessed with natural resources but it is poorly managed. “With the contributory efforts of all of us we can achieve a lot for the Party,” and added: “NPP is the only Party that can help Ghana. If we help Ghana to its good we can attract investors.”

Among other speakers were: Owusu Boateng (1st Vice Chairman of NPP in Italy), Steven Adjei Ameyaw (2nd National Chairman of NPP in Italy) and James Appiah (alias EEC).

The event, highlighted with the Party’s flags, souvenirs, songs and slogans, was also marked with Ghanaian traditional dances.
