NPP Executives Must Distance Themselves From GAKE

The Coalition Against Electoral Fraud a UK-based pressure group (COGEF) believes strongly that the executives of the New Patriotic Party in Ghana must distance themselves from a statement purported to have been made by a spokesman of a group called Get Alan Kyeremateng Elected (GAKE) during a radio interview in London on 2nd June 2014.
The self appointed National Coordinator for GAKE, Mr Kwame Opoku-Agyemang is on record to have stated on Sources Radio (London based) evening political show in a phone interview from Ghana that the newly elected NPP executives in Accra are in fact and indeed working tirelessly to make Alan Kyeremanteng the NPP Flagbearer in their forthcoming primaries.
He went on further to emphasise that, Mr Paul Afoko and Kwabena Adjapong are already in the camp of Mr Alan Kyeremanteng by virtue of their previous links with Alan, and will make sure Nana Akufo-Addo loses the flagbearership position in the impending primaries.
This statement by GAKE Coordinator Mr Agyemang, if not condemned, could not only tag the Executives as biased in favour of one candidate against the others, but can also tarnish their image and potentially brew uncontrollable disunity in the party; thus marring the objective nature of the contest. These kinds of statement if not checked and controlled can create or add to the already escalating tension in the Party.
It is important for the National Executives, especially, the Chairman, Mr Paul Afoko and the General Secretary, Mr Kwabena Adjapong, whose names the GAKE Spokesperson mentioned, to come out immediately and condemn or distance themselves from the assertion made by the group's National Coordinator.
Even though it is unbelievable, Mr Agyemang may not have spoken on the Executives authority, the Coalition Against Electoral Fraud in UK believes that the onus is on these two named Executives embroiled in the GAKE claim to come out and deny the statement and thereby gain some credibility amongst the other flagbearership candidates.
COGEF is a non-partisan political pressure group that organised over 3000 protesters to the Ghana High Commission and 10 Downing St (office of UK Prime Minister) in London, during the Election Petition at Ghana the Supreme Court.
We strongly advise members of the NPP to desist from all forms of campaign of insults and personal attacks, especially in the manner that the GAKE National Coordinator exhibited during the interview. It is important that the NPP executives crack the whip to ensure that all members fall in line during the campaign to elect their Flagbearer.
