NPP Atlanta Revitilized

To hear Iddi Ziblim tells it, it was deemed a no-go proposition to consider setting up an NPP Chapter in Atlanta less than a few years ago because the jewel of the south was considered a NDC stronghold.

The hardy pioneers of Iddi and Dauda Alhassan who believe in democracy and the rule of law persevered and they were rewarded on Saturday October 28, 2006 when a healthy and committed group responded to the call to re-inaugurate and revitalize the NPP-USA Chapter in Atlanta, Georgia.

The crowd was held spell-bound by the address of the NPP-USA Chairman, Mr. Kofi A. Boateng. He impressed upon them not to take the coming 2008 elections in Ghana for granted and come together with their contributions and common focus to ensure that the continuing positive accomplishments of the NPP administration, beginning in 2001 under H.E. John A. Kufuor get out to the Ghana Diaspora who are likely to also vote in 2008. In a constructive discussion, the audience agreed that the place to start is for all to join NPP-USA, contribute their dues of $100 each under the now famous "2 by 1" initiative and recruit others to do the same in order for the goal of $200,000 to be reached very quickly. Special commendations were paid to the NPP diehards who battled the threats of the NDC in Atlanta and also to Mr. Konongo Fordjour who stormed into Atlanta as the coordinator to revitalize the Chapter, ably assisted by Mrs. Catherine Afeku, a potential MP for Evalue-Gwira (Nzima area) who, in addition to all other Diaspora candidates for Parliament, will be supported by NPP-USA.

The new interim Executives of the Atlanta Chapter are: Mr. Kwadwo Konongo Fordjour (Chairman); Mr. Paul Kwaw (Vice Chair); Aaron Mintah (General Secretary); Mr. Tanko Yakubu (Treasurer); Thomas Andoh- Mensah (Organizer). The Executives committed themselves to broaden the membership of NPP in the Atlanta area, promote diversity and ensure that the 2007 NPP-USA Congress that will be held in Atlanta will be a runaway success.
