By Honourable Kyei Mensah-Bonsu

The Alberta Chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Ghana was successfully inaugurated by Honourable Key Mensah-Bonsu on May 14th, 2011 at a festive ceremony in Edmonton, Alberta. The occasion was filled with rich Ghanaian culture as cultural troupes from both Edmonton and Calgary performed to the delight of the invited guest. The Calgary group, led by Mr. Daniel Kyei Boateng and Lawrence Asiedu, put on a wonderful performance of Kete dance and the Edmonton group, determined not to be overshadowed, came up with a marvellous adowa performance that rocked the house!

During the inauguration Honourable Kyei Mensah- Bonsu sworn in the following new executive members for the Alberta Chapter: Mr. Kwame Abrefah, Chairman, Mr. Eddward Akkufo, General Secretary, Mr. Philip Duah, Organizing Secretary, Ms, Grace Foli, Treasurer, Mr. Sam Nuako, Vice Chairman, Moses Manful and Moses Abaca, youth organizers.

Drawing on the unprecedented achievements of the NPP party in government, Honourable Kyei Mensah-Bonsu highlighted some of the major achievements of the NPP during President Kuffour’s administration including the National Health Insurance Scheme, the School Feeding Program, Mass Transit Program, National Youth Employment Program and the unprecedented economic growth that took place under the NPP government. Honourable Kyei Mensah-Bonsu urged Ghanaians not to listen to the “politics of insults” that the NDC is using to divert attention from their abysmal failure to lead the country but to make an informed decision based on the factual records of both the NPP and the NDC.

The newly elected Chairman of the Chapter, Mr. Kwame Abrefah, urged the Ghanaians in Alberta to work tirelessly to unite the community. He also said the NPP is a National Party that seeks to represent all Ghanaians irrespective of their creed, gender, ethnicity and class. He urged Ghanaians to vote NPP to bring peace, development, and democracy back to Ghana.

Mr. Prince Sefah, the General Secretary of the Toronto Chapter, urged membership of the Alberta Chapter to work together with understanding, humility, and service leadership. He urged the Ghanaian community to get involved in the organization to help propel the Association to new heights.
