NDC, UK & Ireland – Branch Elections

The UK & Ireland Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held its Biennial local elections over the weekend at the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre in North London to elect new Executive Committee Members to steer the affairs of the Branch for the next two years.

The event was attended by a large section of the Party’s membership and party faithfuls in the UK & Ireland, which included Ward representatives from Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool and Milton Keynes.

The elections, held in a calm and transparent atmosphere, were moderated by a three member delegation from the NDC National Executive Committee (NEC) headed by Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, NDC General Secretary, and including Hon. Kofi Attor, Director of International Relations and Mr Ludwig Hlodze, Deputy National Youth Organiser and Presidential Staffer.

In his opening address, Mr Hlodze who also doubled as the returning officer for the elections, said President Mills’ Administration was working to create conducive economic and social environment for all Ghanaians, including those resident abroad to enable them to contribute to the development of the country. He tasked the Branch leadership to embark on an active recruitment drive by setting up a network of Wards across the United Kingdom to expand the Party’s membership base.

Mr Alex Segbefia, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency and immediate past Chairman expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all those members who contributed to making his tenure of office a success. He pledged his continuous support to the Branch when needed.

Hon. Kofi Attor swore in the members of the newly elected Executive Committee. He asked them to be guided by the principle of probity and accountability. Hon. Attor encouraged Branch members to be motivated with the payment of their subscriptions to increase the revenue base of the party.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Horace Nii Aryee Ankrah, the newly elected Branch Chairman promised to build on the work of his predecessors. He said one of his major tasks was to facilitate unity among Branch members. He also said he would endeavour to harness all talents within the Branch to foster the growth of the party in both UK and Ireland.

In his keynote address, the NDC General Secretary, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia counselled the entire membership present to the core values of the National Democratic Congress as Social Democrats. He congratulated the newly elected Executive Committee Members and charged them to abide by the Party’s Constitution, insisting that due diligence was used in the conduct of party business in order to avoid misunderstanding and animosity among members.
