NDC-New York Blasts Chief Imam

In a recent puerile editorial by the NDC, New York chapter through its General
Secretary, Moses Kanduri, published on Ghanaweb on Friday, 28th January, 2011
and other media fora –was extremely prevaricate, and well calculated to tarnish
the renowned image of the national Chief Imam, Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu, his
industrious office, and the entire Zongo/Muslim Community. Shockingly, Moses, a
non-Muslim, has taken a swipe and hid behind his political party colors, the
NDC, to spew vermin on his Highness, Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu. The publication
missed its aim to counter our earlier release with the heading “Atta Mills Shuns
the Chief Imam.” In this publication, we communicated our concerns and our
points were well presented in all manner of civility.

Part of paragraph four of the General Secretary of the NDC-NY article alleged,
that there is a corrupt act and other activities in the Chief Imams office. It
went on to say that there’s an on-going diabolical and corrupt practice whereby
some of the Chief Imam’s members of staff are charging young people huge amounts
of money to include them in his international trips. “To mention just a few
instances, during the chief Imam’s visit to the USA a couple of years ago,
people were charged $10,000 for US visas while $8,000 was charged for Visa
during the Chief Imam’s visit to Spain.” The article claims. Every well-meaning
Muslim regardless of political affiliation will be saddened with such an
unprecedented and outrageous remarks aimed at disgracing the National Chief Imam
of Ghana, not only in the country, but also globally on the world wide web. From
what has been written about him, how would he be perceived henceforth? Folks,
this is where the NDC’s unguarded propaganda has got to, Fadama – Chief Imam
Sheik Sharabutu’s residency. Allahu Akbar!
Man will only become better when you make him see what he is like. Moses needs
education; we have taken time off our busy schedules to school the ignoramus.
First of all, the article was poorly written and rightfully misplaced. The
argument raised was for no reason but to blast our most cherished renowned
spiritual leader and his office. Every true Muslim should care for our leader,
Sheik Imam Nuhu Sharabutu. The unpardonable scribe was highly offensive and
derogatory. The motive behind the write-up was to cause pain to the national
chief Imam and the Muslim community at large, with no other object than to bring
the name of our spiritual highness into disrepute. The NDC political party is as
wicked as its intentions require. Many Ghanaian Muslims and our modest selves
strongly refute the publication of the NDC-NY.
Paragraph two of the publication falsely said the NASARA-NY has been formed to
counter YANKASA. This is one of typical NDC falsehoods, three members of
NASARA-NY are top executive officers of the widely respectable body – YANKASA.
Nasara Club-NY is less than a year old but the numerical strength is
overwhelming – growing from strength to strength. In discussing the specifics
spelt out by the publication, they all fall flat in the face of hard facts. We
implore Ghanaians to treat the publication with the contempt and disdain it
deserves. The writer thought he was writing to sway the minds of the
right-thinking Northern/Zongo countrymen and women. But little did he know that
all the lies and deceits of the NDC party have been exposed in our Zongo
Communities, hence, recent defections of dozens of the youths from the NDC to
the great political party, NPP.

Nasara club of NY, hereby states categorically that we have read our way from an
omnivorous curiosity to a deeply held conviction. We would like to take this
opportunity to let Ghana and the world know that NASARA is pristine to the
historical roots down the NPP party our forefathers founded; NPP political party
belongs to us. The Nasara Club of New York does not need a myopic mind to tell
us the historical background of our great party. We perfectly know the origins
of our great party and the historic role people of the Northern stock and the
Islamic Community played in the formation of the party. It is one reason why we
have gone to reclaim our heritage – Sankofa, because that is where we belong and
not in the Ewe dominated NDC. We know for sure the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
traces its roots to Northern People’s Party (NPP). We know that the United Party
was an amalgamation of Northern people’s party (NPP), Moslem Alliance Party
(MAP), National Liberation Movement (NLM) and others that formed a true national
party, which antecedent is the present day New Patriotic Party. We know the
contributions of people in the Muslim Communities like Alhaji Ahmadu Baba, Tolon
Naa, Jato Kaleo, Chief Simon Diedong Dombo and others who built our party. We
know our history very well. If Moses Kanduri and his paid lying NDC think they
can use Chief SD Dombo to bring a wedge between the Zongo Communities and the
NPP, they have failed miserably because the Nasara Group is well versed – deeply
– in the genesis of our political history. At least we know what the NDC and its
then government did to our own late Dr. Hilla Limann – who died miserably- may
his soul rest in perfect peace! JJ Rawlings used the northern boys in the army,
Akatapore and co, to overthrow the first president from the North. He dumped the
Northerners after the coup and rewarded his Ewe tribesmen. We will not succumb
to be flocks of “Chairman.” We are on the right side of history.
The value of our proud Zongo Communities plummeted since 1992 when the despotic
related political party, the NDC, penetrated with lies. Zongo in Ghana has been
rocked with heavy losses. The presence of the NDC in the Zongo has killed our
aspirations for far too long: lack of quality education, unemployment, poverty
and diseases are the themes rumbling in our communities.

We are much concerned about the ‘use and dump’ practice which has become a well
known status quo in Ghana’s NDC contemporary politics. The NDC party has
hypnotized and conceptualized the Zongo Communities with their shenanigans. In
times of elections, the NDC political party looks no further than to recruit our
Zongo brothers (i.e. Azoka Boys and etc) for their evil hooliganisms and mafia
warfare, and later discard them like émigrés. The youth from Zongo are now
labeled as victims of Rawlings political flocks. Many would acknowledge, after
using them to gain political power, the Ewes are called in for scholarships,
better jobs and to occupy top governmental positions. The most notable ethnic
group in Ghana characterized with favoritism and nepotism. Ghanaians will attest
to the fact that we’re one of the most industrious and hardworking group, yet we
have been relegated by the political party that claims loudly that it loves us.
How many Azoka Boys are enrolled in education or being offered a job in the Osu
Castle? The NDC party is only teasing Zongo. Unfortunately, the confidence some
of the members in the Zongo Community have in the NDC party and its government
has been bruised and battered.

Innumerable members of the Zongo community have parted company with the hardcore
propaganda driven NDC political party.

Concrete steps are being taken to ensure immense reform: politically and
socially that meets the aspirations of the Northern/Zongo Communities.

Asalamalaikum!
