Milton Keynes ward of the NDC UK & Ireland

Holds Thanksgiving Service and celebration for “A Better Ghana” agenda

The Milton Keynes’ ward of the National Democratic Congress, NDC UK & Ireland held a Thanksgiving Service over the weekend in Milton Keynes to celebrate the Party’s victory at the December 2008 General Elections.

The vibrant and joyous church service, which was held at the Centrecom Meeting Place Halls in Central Milton Keynes, was well attended by NDC party members and well wishes across the United Kingdom. Those present include a number of NDC party sympathisers and a cross section of the Ghanaian communities resident in London, Liverpool and Manchester. Also in attendance was a delegation from the Republic of Ireland ward of the National Democratic Congress.

Mrs Regina Kumadi, the women’s organiser of the Milton Keynes ward of the NDC, delivered the welcoming address and thanked all those present for turning out in their numbers to worship with them

The opening prayer and the thanksgiving messages were delivered by the Rev Gilbert Amartey. The reverend minister prayed for God’s protection for all Ghanaians in the Diaspora. He prayed and asked for God’s guidance and protection for our leaders in the discharge of their duties. He prayed for the NDC leadership led by His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills and urged the NDC government to lead by example, be transparent and accountable to the people of Ghana. Mr Kaburi read a passage from the Bible.

Dr Lawrence Akwetey, a leading member of the party conducted the church service and graced the occasion by leading the congregation to sing numerous songs of praise. He thanked the Almighty God for guiding the nation through the December 2008 general elections. Dr Akwetey said he was most grateful to God for the peaceful and successful manner in which political power was transferred from one political party to another after the elections.

Special intercessory prayer for the unity of our country and renewed strength was said for the leadership in government and the party. The closing prayer was said by Mrs Ethel Akafo, organiser of the Milton Keynes’ ward. Mr Reginald Akafo, chairman of the NDC Milton Keynes chapter delivered the vote of thanks. Mr Akafo sent a message of goodwill to the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills and members of the NDC administration. Goodwill and solidarity messages were read by the vice chair, a representative of the youth wing and the women’s organiser of the UK & Ireland branch.

The special guests of honour were Mr George Selormey, brother of the late Victor Selormey and Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation in London and a leading member of the NDC.

The church service was followed by a jamboree and sale of items to raise funds for the party. The event was rounded up with an evening dance that finished in the early hours of Sunday. The ward chairman, Mr Akafo thanked all for their attendance and support.

Eye, Eye Za! Long live NDC!! Long live Ghana.
