In the last year 16 new oil discoveries have been made in Ghana, the President, John Dramani Mahama has told Ghanaians resident in Ethiopia.

The President who met the Ghanaians, mostly professionals working in that country and delegates to the 20th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government at a reception held in his honour at the residence of the Ghanaian Ambassador in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa Monday January 28, 2013, also revealed that in the last two weeks a new discovery with about 200 million barrels of oil has been made in the country.

He told the Ghanaians among other things that the country is doing well in managing the oil. He made reference to the Petroleum Management Laws that have been passed.

He assured the Ghanaians that his government will continue to work hard to improve conditions in the country.

Ghana discovered oil in June 2007, at the Mahogany-1 exploration well in the Jubilee fields. This is the largest oil find in the last decade offshore West Africa.
