Kwahuman Europe, the unified voice of Kwahu Citizens in Europe, will hold their end of year Conference in Amsterdam from 9th – 11th December 2011 to unveil it’s 2020 vision for the Kwahu Traditional Area The conference will be attended by all the European member associations from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands where the Conference will be hosted. A special guest of honour for this conference will be Mr. Kojo Fosu, Chairman, Board of directors of Okwawu United of USA and Canada.

Speaking at a National Executives meeting of Kwahuman Association of Italy, held over the weekend in the Northern Italian city of Modena, and attended by local Kwahuman Associations from Brescia, Verona, Milano, Mantova and Modena, the General Secretary of Kwahuman Europe, Mr. David Forson aka Owura Asante said, it is the vision of Kwahuman Europe led by its committed President, Dr Abena Keller-Agyepong, to raise not only the health and economic status of the people of the area, but also the standard of education in the Kwahu district, as education is the tool of empowerment for any growing nation to helps its citizens make informed choices.

The Secretary related a recent visit by Mr. Kojo Fosu, chairman, Board of Directors of Okwawu United of North America &Canada, of all primary schools in the Kwahu traditional area. His findings were the shocking dilapidated condition under which most of the school had to operate. A harsh reality of lack of Sanitary facilities, even a desk to sit on and lack of basic amenities was a sorry sight which demands immediate attention. This concern was brought to the attention of Executives and Members of Kwahuman Associations at a 4-day World Conference held in September this year in New York.

Education was identified at the end of the Conference as the main focus arising from the vision of 2020. It was unanimously agreed upon that renovation of all primary schools in the traditional area and the provision of basic amenities where it’s lacked, will be the primary goal adopted by both Continental Unions in collaboration with KDA( Kwahu Developement Association) and the local Chiefs.

Steps have already been taken towards making the education vision a reality. A library once started and later abandoned after the death of its owner has been adopted by Kwahuman USA for renovation, with the aim of reviving it to serve the entire traditional area. Mr. Steve Darkwah, Secretary General of Okwawu United of USA& Canada and Vice President of Kwahuman New York is currently in Ghana overseeing the renovation of the Library in Pepease after which the library will be stocked with books ,computers and amenities which will make it a modern library to be used by schools and all in the area .Mr. Darkwah will stay until the completion of this project and hand it over before his return to the United States.

In Europe, the city council of Antwerp, have donated ICT equipment worth €12000 to Kwahuman Belgium. With assistance from the city council, and in collaboration with Kwahuman Europe, an ICT center will be created in Kwahu Aduamoah to be freely patronized by all citizens in the area and beyond .Additional support for this project will be provided by Kwahumnan Switzerland by supplying additional computers donated by Medtronic,a medical manufacturing company based in Lausanne Switzerland. The cost for shipping the computers was born by members of Kwahuman Association, Switzerland. Cash donation was also made by Kwahu Aduamoah citizens in the USA,UK, local chiefs and citizens of Aduamoah. The Computers were shipped through the KDA (Kwahuman Development Association) who will be responsible for clearing of the shipments. Sword cutting ceremony for this ICT has been planned for January 2012 at Kwahu Aduamoah.

The ongoing unity among Kwahu Citizens home and abroad is a welcoming development showing the good will of Kwahu citizens. This prompted Dr, Abena Keller- Agyepong in a recent communiqué to call on all Professionals from the Kwahu Traditional Area including philanthropics and friends of Kwahuman to come together and form a network of “think- tank” of experts who will be willing to offer their expertise on issues that is related to their fields that will help create sustainable projects to the benefit of the people in the area and Ghana as a whole.
