Korle Bu Children’s Ward Benefit from Agoo Kente Dance

The Talking Drums Project, organizers of the Agoo Kente Dance in Columbus (OH), made good on their promise to make a donation to the children’s ward of one of Ghana’s premier health institutions. On Thursday, January 3, 2008, Mrs. Stella Kessie Asare, president of the Ohio-based non-profit Talking Drums Project, presented assorted medical supplies to the Children’s Ward of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana. The items were received on behalf of the ward by Mrs. Theresa Crabbe, a Senior Nursing Sister.

The supplies included ambulatory bags, face masks, disposable lumbar puncture aspirate devices, sphygmomanometers, and pediatric cuffs of varied sizes.

The Talking Drums Project organized a Kente dance in September 2007, partly to celebrate the first anniversary of the Kente Dance in Columbus, Ohio, and partly to raise funds to aid the Children’s Ward.

During the presentation, Mrs. Asare had the opportunity to meet Dr. Jennifer Welbeck, Professor and Head of the Children’s Block and her assistant, Dr. Lorna Neizer who also expressed their appreciation for the kind gesture from the Ghanaian community in Columbus, Ohio.

The 2008 Kente Dance will be preceded by a cultural awareness workshop for Ghanaian children. The dance comes off in Columbus (OH) in September 2008. Additional information on the workshop as well as the dance will be provided by the organizers through fliers and posters.
