Jefferson Sackey to be honoured in Canada today

All attention will this night be focused on the works of Ghanaian jourmalist and host of JS-International Assignment, Jefferson Kwamina Sackey in Canada for his contribution to human rights awareness.

Over one thousand journalists and students will attend the NightForRights which will showcase Jefferson’s humanitarian reports in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Rwanda would be screened to create awareness on the works of Journalists for Human Rights, a humanitarian organization that informs people about their rights. Founded in 2003, and having programs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, Malawi and Zambia, jhr currently reaches over 20-million Africans weekly with stories that inspire and create positive social change.

According to the Canadian based humanitarian organization, the works of Jefferson Sackey has not only spelt out the need for responsible journalism but has also inspired thousands of African journalists to actively get involved in spreading human rights awareness hence the need for this honour.

Jefferson Sackey started as a news anchor in 2003 as a television newscaster and journalist with TV Africa in Ghana. As West African freelance correspondent for DWTV in Berlin he covered some of the most sensitive humanitarian stories in Africa including Sudan, Somalia and Niger. He joined Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Media Relations Officer until his resignation in 2008.
