Heritage Ghanaian SDA Church in Toronto Holds Children's Day

June 21, 2008 was another big day for the Heritage Ghanaian Seventh-day Adventist Church at its new place of worship, the Christian Centre, 4545 Jane Street in Toronto. On that day the children of the church were joined by the Children's Choir of its mother Church from 285 Attwell Drive in Etobicoke and other children from the Jane/Finch neighborhood to celebrate Children's Day.

The day was fully devoted to children activities throughout the worship. Children conducted the Sabbath School. Children's Choirs from both Heritage and Attwell did the special songs. Children put up puppet show to tell the wonderful story of the Love of Jesus. And children demonstrated 'sign language hour' for inclusive worship!

Speaking to a fully packed church, 'a lover of children' and medical doctor by profession, Elder Kwame Sarpong used the love that Jesus demonstrated towards children when on earth to underscore the rightful place of children in society and in the kingdom of God. The humility and forgiving-spirit of children are noble keys to the Kingdom of God which the speaker urged all Christians to possess.

He said that parenting has become very difficult for Ghanaians especially in the western world where are confronted with two different cultures-the very strict culture of raising children which we are used to in Ghana and the overly permissive culture of bringing up children in Canada/USA. He admonished parents not to be abusive or too permissive to their children in their (kids) upbringing. "We must be careful not to use our character as adults to prevent any child from the kingdom of God", he warned.

A young couple of the church, Alex Oduro and his wife (Linda) presented their second baby for dedication on that day. The dedication ceremony was conducted by the head elder of the church, Elder Joseph Eyiah.

What a day of celebration for children in the House of the Lord! "Train up a child......" Glory be to God.
