Help sought in year-old killing of college student

Chicago police and Crime Stoppers will pass out fliers Saturday in Uptown to draw attention to the unsolved year-old murder of a Truman College student.

Francis Oduro, 22, was killed on May 21, 2008, in the 4500 block of North Broadway as he walked to a CTA train stop from the college, where he had been taking classes for more than a year.

Oduro, a native of Ghana who had been in the United States for 18 months, was walking at night on Broadway in the same direction as a man identified by police at the time as a suspected gang member when gunshots rang out. Oduro was killed and the other man, who may have been the intended target, was critically injured.

"This killing occurred on a business street in a busy neighborhood and is still unsolved," said George McDade, chairman of Cook County Crime Stoppers."There are people who would have seen something. People see little parts of the crime scene. ."

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest. The group and Chicago police will distribute information on the case at 10 a.m. at the scene of the homicide.
